Here's the Church...

What is the Church?

There is a children’s finger game that goes, Here is the Church, Here is the steeple, Open the doors, and See all the people.

But the rhyme misses the point because the Church is not the building and in one sense it is not even simply the people who meet inside. The Church is the whole people of God, chosen, set apart, dearly loved, saved, and given life through Jesus’ death and resurrection. The Church is made up of every believer around the world and throughout time. The universal Church is the Church as God sees her, strong, beautiful, led by Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
