God Is Good All the Time
God Is Good All the Time
A. Many have questions about the goodness of God.
1. If God is good, why do we have wars?
2. If God is good, why does He allow natural disasters?
3. If God is good, why do children die?
B. We don’t know all the answers to life’s questions.
1. The Lord’s ways are higher than our ways (Isa. 55:8)
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
2. Our knowledge is limited: God’s knowledge is unlimited (Isa. 55:9)
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
3. We may not know everything about God but we know He is good.
C. How do we know God is good?
We Know God is Good Because of Who He Is
We Know God is Good Because of Who He Is
1. God is holy (Isa. 6:1-8)
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 So I said:
“Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The Lord of hosts.”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said:
“Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away,
And your sin purged.”
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
“Whom shall I send,
And who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
a. Isaiah had a vision of God’s holiness.
b. The creatures of heaven cry God’s holiness.
2. John confirmed Isaiah’s vision of God’s holiness. (Rev. 5)
a. Holiness and evil cannot coexist.
b. Since God is holy, He is good.
3. We can be sure, then, that God is good all the time.
We Know God is Good Because of What He Has Done
We Know God is Good Because of What He Has Done
1. The goodness of God is revealed in creation (Gen. 1)
a. God confirmed the goodness of creation (Gen. 1:10, 12, 18, 21, 25)
b. Even the heavens declare His goodness and glory (Ps. 19:1)
2. The goodness of God is revealed in redemption. (Rom. 5:8-17)
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
a. He loves us and has provided for our salvation.
b. Sinners can be saved because of God’s love.
c. This is God’s wondrous work of redemption.
The Goodness of God is Revealed in What He is Doing Now
The Goodness of God is Revealed in What He is Doing Now
1. God is doing “wondrous things”.
a. He is saving all who come to Him in faith (Rom. 5:1)
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
b. He is receiving all who receive Him (John 6:37)
37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.
2. He is causing all things to work together for good to those who love.
a. He is working in their lives with a perfect plan in mind (Rom. 8:28)
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
b. He is moving circumstances to make them like Jesus (Rom. 8:29)
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
3. He is moving nations into their prophesied places to fulfill prophecy (Matt. 24)
