Some wise advise!
Some wise advise!
A proverb is “a short pithy saying” in general use. It is stating a general truth or piece of advise. Proverbs are practical, proverbs are instructive, proverbs are for prevention, for warning, for reminding and yes for application.
Do we listen for, pay attention to wise advise?
Do we adhere to warning and recognize what has been done for us, in other words appreciate the benefits of the warning and instruction?
May we be willing as we look at this passage today to incline our ear, to listen to apply some good Godly wisdom that helps us to lead a Godly life.
Finding God’s will for your Godly life
Finding God’s will for your Godly life
Who does not want to know God’s perfect and acceptable will for their life? The one who is a fool, or the scoffer maybe, but the Christian should be willing to seek God’s will through some Biblical wisdom.
1 My son, if you will receive my words And treasure my commandments within you, 2 Make your ear attentive to wisdom, Incline your heart to understanding;
3 For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding; 4 If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,

Results, you will discern, discover, and have knowledge of God (Pro2:5)

Receive my words (Pro2:1; Lk6:46-48)
46 “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like:
48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
We need to hear and act on His Words, on His Wisdom
When we due we are able to withstands the storms of life
These words are like a foundation we build our spiritual house on.
Receive my words (Pro2:1; Lk5:46-48)
Treasure my commands (Pro2:1; Pro3:3)
Treasure them, keep them in your heart
3 Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.
bind them around your neck
Don’t just write treasure them, write them on your heart.
Receive my words (Pro2:1; Lk5:46-48)
Treasure my commands (Pro2:1; Pro3:3)
Incline your heart (Pro2:2; Pro4:20)
20 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.
Give attention to, incline you heart, incline you ear to the wise sayings!
Receive my words (Pro2:1; Lk6:46-48)
Treasure my commands (Pro2:1; Pro3:3)
Incline your heart (Pro2:2; Pro4:20)
Cry out , seek, search (Pro2:3-4; Pro1:7)
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
When we cry out (ask); when we seek, when we search we will ind wisdom and then we start to understand the fear of the Lord.
Receive my words (Pro2:1; Lk6:46-48)
Treasure my commands (Pro2:1; Pro3:3)
Incline your heart (Pro2:2; Pro4:20)
Cry out , seek, search (Pro2:3-4; Pro1:7)
Results, you will discern, discover, and have knowledge of God (Pro2:5)
5 Then you will discern the fear of the Lord And discover the knowledge of God.
To discern, is to perceive, to recognize or to distinguish something, or someone.
This is discerning the fear of the Lord! and when we do that we can understand His will for us and we will seek it to apply it!
Finding, recognizing what God has done
Finding, recognizing what God has done
We know the reason for wisdom. We know how to receive wisdom. We know how to find God’s will for us through wisdom, now may we know, may we recognize what we have in God by wisdom.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. 7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8 Guarding the paths of justice, And He preserves the way of His godly ones.
_____________________
He gives wisdom (Jam3:17)
He gives knowledge and understanding (Pro9:10)
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity (Psm15:2)
He guards the path of the Godly
May we know and walk in integrity and righteousness (Pro8:20)
We can do that when we know we are His and how we became His (Col1:12-14)
_______________________
He gives wisdom (Jam3:17)
17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.
Wisdom from above, wisdom that gives knowledge and understanding
He gives wisdom (Jam3:17)
He gives knowledge and understanding (Pro9:10)
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
He gives wisdom (Jam3:17)
He gives knowledge and understanding (Pro9:10)
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity (Psm15:2)
2 He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, And speaks truth in his heart.
May we be like this, one who walks with integrity, does works of righteousness and speaks the truth not just for truth sake but for heart sake! (expand on this)
He gives wisdom (Jam3:17)
He gives knowledge and understanding (Pro9:10)
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity (Psm15:2)
He guards the path of the Godly
He guards, He protects, He preserves, He assures that He will get us through this life, it does not mean we will not have struggles.
The godly is the one who has the Lord and is grasping what it means to have the Lord, in short it is finding and knowing what the Lord has done!
He gives wisdom (Jam3:17)
He gives knowledge and understanding (Pro9:10)
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity (Psm15:2)
He guards the path of the Godly
May we know and walk in integrity and righteousness (Pro8:20)
20 “I walk in the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of justice,
And then finally:
He gives wisdom (Jam3:17)
He gives knowledge and understanding (Pro9:10)
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity (Psm15:2)
He guards the path of the Godly
May we know and walk in integrity and righteousness (Pro8:20)
We can do that when we know we are His and how we became His (Col1:12-14)
12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. 13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
when we can, through wisdom, knowledge, understanding know the will of God , and we recognize all that the Lord has done for us, we then can seek and know the benefits of knowing the Lord.
Finding, knowing benefits in the Lord
Finding, knowing benefits in the Lord
Who wants a blessing? OK, who doesn’t, right? Knowing, understanding some of the benefits (blessings) we have in the Lord makes us wise.
9 Then you will discern righteousness and justice And equity and every good course. 10 For wisdom will enter your heart And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
11 Discretion will guard you, Understanding will watch over you, 12 To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things;
Discernment (v.9)
Discernment is knowing the right thing, in this case righteousness, for the right time and for the right reason and application. (expand on this)
Discretion (v.11)
This is being able to understand, distinguish and apply the right thing
Definition in Websters is the ability (freedom) to decide what should be done in a particular situation.
Deliverance (v.12)
You have deliverance if you are His (ref. Col1:13)
Wisdom is practical, wisdom is good and it will help you see the warning signs.
Seeing the warning signs of the wicked
Seeing the warning signs of the wicked
Signs maybe visible at times but do we pay attention to them? The writer is giving us some clear warning signs for a purpose. To protect us from evil.
When we understand what we have in the Lord, we don’t want to be distracted, detoured, discouraged, dismayed, derailed from what we have by the lure, appeal of the world which is evil. Evil in our passage is shown as a person so look at the definition given.
12 rescuing you from the way of evil— from the one who says perverse things, 13 from those who abandon the right paths to walk in ways of darkness,
14 from those who enjoy doing evil and celebrate perversion, 15 whose paths are crooked, and whose ways are devious.
The one who speaks perverse things
Perverse (adj): showing a deliberate and obstinate desire to behave in a way that is unreasonable or unacceptable, often in spite of the consequences.
The one who strays from the right path (Rom1:21-22)
This is one who knows the truth, was walking in the truth and now has traded the truth.
21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
The one who enjoy doing evil and celebrate perversion (wrong thing)
Wisdom that comes from above wants us to see the signs so as to save your soul, so that not only can we have faith but we can do something with our faith.
21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.
Evil being described as a person, further signs given in the passage showing evil as an immoral woman.
See warning signs of immoral woman
See warning signs of immoral woman
Sometimes immorality is very apparent and even repulsive, but what about if it were alluring, and discreetly deceptive? In the Proverbs the immoral woman is also known as folly.
16 To deliver you from the strange woman, From the adulteress who flatters with her words; 17 That leaves the companion of her youth And forgets the covenant of her God;
18 For her house sinks down to death And her tracks lead to the dead; 19 None who go to her return again, Nor do they reach the paths of life.
Strange woman tries to lure you with her words (Pro2:16; 2Cor11:1-4)
1 I wish that you would bear with me in a little foolishness; but indeed you are bearing with me. 2 For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.
3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. 4 For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.
Don’t allow ourselves to be lead astray, to be deceived fro the simplicity of the gospel
Wants you to forget, to break covenant
Strange woman tries to lure you with her words (Pro2:16; 2Cor11:1-4)
Wants you to forget, to break covenant
This breaking covenant is not an event but a lifestyle. If you leave the truth you have fallen from grace and not to return to it (by choice). Without God’s grace you are without hope, hearts are hardened and not wanting, not willing to return.
She wants to lead you to eternal death (separation) from God due to sinful life choices.
She leads to death (Rom6:23)
Strange woman tries to lure you with her words (Pro2:16; 2Cor11:1-4)
Wants you to forget, to break covenant
She leads to death (Rom6:23)
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Wisdom wants you to have eternal life, the free gift from God through Christ Jesus who
Equips you with everything you need (2Pt1:3) so that
You can withstand various trials (Jam1:3) and that you can
Do God’s work (Eph2:10)
God wants us to enjoy the blessings HE has for us and wants us to do His will
Experiencing blessings in doing God’s will
Experiencing blessings in doing God’s will
Wisdom has a purpose, to receive, to discern, to give prudence, to increase learning, to understand the fear of the Lord, and, to enjoy the blessings of wisdom and in doing the Lord’s will.
20 So you will walk in the way of good men And keep to the paths of the righteous. 21 For the upright will live in the land And the blameless will remain in it;
22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land And the treacherous will be uprooted from it.

The wise walk in the way of good men, live in the place prepared (Jn14:1-6)
The will walk blameless (Php2:14-15)
But the foolish (wicked) will be cut off
They will be uprooted (Rom11:22; Mt3:10, 7:19)
___________________________________________
The wise walk in the way of good men, live in the place prepared (Jn14:1-6)
1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 “And you know the way where I am going.”
5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Don’t be unwise, be wise knowing what you believe, why you believe and what has been prepared for you and how to get there.
The wise walk in the way of good men, live in the place prepared (Jn14:1-6)
The will walk blameless (Php2:14-15)
Know and walk blameless
14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing; 15 so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,
Prove yourself to be blameless and innocent, above reproach, living in plain sight in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation.
The wise walk in the way of good men, live in the place prepared (Jn14:1-6)
The will walk blameless (Php2:14-15)
But the foolish (wicked) will be cut off
I don’t think we need to go too much further on the cut off, it’s a hell of a subject and wisdom is for the good, to protect, to warn, to lead.
The wise walk in the way of good men, live in the place prepared (Jn14:1-6)
The will walk blameless (Php2:14-15)
But the foolish (wicked) will be cut off
They will be uprooted (Rom11:22; Mt3:10, 7:19)
Well, I don’t need to say much about the cut off, the uprooted, let the scripture speak for itself.
22 Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
Severity of God to those who fell, but to you! Look, God’s kindness!
10 “The axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Severity for the axe is already at the root of the tree to cut it down and throw into the fire
19 “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
For if the person does not bear good fruit, it is thrown into the fire.
So wisdom is vitally important. It more than knowledge and understanding. So be sure to seek Wisdom for the benefits of it are out of this world.
