Last Week:

we talked about how important it is for us to maintain:
our Love for God,
and our love for others.
Revelation 2:8–11 NKJV
“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write, ‘These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life: “I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.” ’
The Persecuted Church

Last week Jesus was described like this:

Revelation 2:1 NKJV
“To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:
8 “And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write,
‘These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life: 9 “I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. 10 Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
which meant:
Christ is Identified as the speaker in each case. He alone holds these churches. the head of every church is christ. the head of this church is christ.
11 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.” ’
Revelation 2:8 NKJV
“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write, ‘These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life:
which means:
This of course is Jesus, since they are about to face trials, Jesus wants to comfort them reminding them that death for Jesus was just a transition later in the text He promises to give them a crown if they don't compromise.
Revelation 2:9 NKJV
“I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.

I Know your works

Point
some scholars point to the omniscience of Christ. He knows my works and my labors more than my confessions and professions.
that’s why we encourage people at the rock to “play church”, God knows the difference between who we actually are and who we want to be.
one of the worst things we can do is fake it in the body of christ. when we do that we don't allow ourselves to reap the benefits of being a member of the body of Christ.
you might be wondering why would I open myself like that? I’m so glad that you asked!

tribulation,

they where going through tribulation for their belief in Christ.
from who?
probably both sides. the Jews, the synagogue of satan, as well as the roman world, the roman world had room for every thing but absolute truth.
while i believe in the absolute truth of the authority of scripture in this world, I think we should do more living then talking. what James would have called I will show you my faith by my works.
it is so easy to become intellectually self righteous while spiritually poor.

and poverty (but you are rich)

while lyodician church was economically rich they are spiritually poor.

and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not,

outward Jews not inward Jews.

they are from the synagogue of Satan

because they oppressed the work of God.
Revelation 2:10 NKJV
Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Do not fear those things which you are about to suffer.

dont worry about your body, its your soul that matters

Indeed, the Devil is about to throw some of you in prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days.
