Psalm 1

(The Blessed Man)

There are only two kinds of men on the earth-the blessed man and the cursed man.

There are only two ways or paths to take-God’s way and man’s way.

There are only two destinies after death-eternal life and eternal death.

I.  The blessed man

A.  What a blessed man must not do (v. 1)

The counsel of the ungodly can be found:

On the Television, on the radio, in the newspaper, in magazines, in the classroom, and in our daily conversations.

Darkness never wants light to shine upon it.

B.  What a blessed man must do (v. 2)

A blessed man must delight in the law of the Lord.

The basic meaning of “delight” is to feel great favor towards something.

We should each day meditate on:

  1. What God says (Psalm 1:2)
  2. Who God is (Psalm 63:6)
  3. What God does (Psalm 77:12)

C.  The rewards of being blessed (v. 3)

  1. Fervency
  2. Fruitfulness
  3. Flourishing

II.  The cursed man (vs. 4-6)

A.  No foundation

B.  No fruit

C.  Nothing to look forward to

D.  No fortress
