James 1:13–15 ESV
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

What is Lust?

Lust, though it is commonly defined something sexual, can generally be summed up as desire.
To lust means “to long for, to desire very much.”
Lust is a matter of both the heart and mind. Both the saved and the unsaved have the propensity to lust.
In , he prophesies that the heart is deceitful. In , Jesus picks up the same thought as he says that evil things come out of the heart.
and 12:1 show the role that the mind plays in falling into, or overcoming, temptation. The mind must not be governed by the flesh, but must be renewed and controlled by the Spirit.

Recognizing Your Temptations

What are the things that you long for, whether good or bad?
What is something or someone you feel like would bring you the ultimate satisfaction?
What is it that pulls on you? Even when you do not want to think about it, it calls you?
What is it about this person or thing that is so gratifying, and why is its pull so strong?

Overcoming Your Temptations
