A. Where We’ve Been
B. Where We’re Going
C. Main Text
Ephesians 4:4–7 ESV
4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
Eph 4:4-
Ephesians 4:4–10 ESV
4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.” 9 (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? 10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)
Eph 4:4

II. BODY
A. We are united
a. Context
1. The Big Deal: oneness!
i. Previous VS’s shared the importance of spiritual 1ness & how to maintain that 1ness practically via
- Humility
- Gentleness (mildness)
- Patience
ii. Now Paul uses the next 3vs to express both examples of & how we experience that 1ness:
- ex of 1ness:
Ephesians 4:4–6 ESV
4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Ephesians 4:4 ESV
4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—
a. Christians are one in body
1. body is a metaphor which Paul regularly uses 2 describe the fellowship o Christ followers
Romans 12:4–5 ESV
4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
RO 12:4-
Romans 12:4–8 ESV
4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
i. We need ea. other!
-all interconnected
2. maintaining 1ness: belief in christianity 2day that maintaining 1ness when we’re hurt looks like putting on a fake smile & internalizing it
i. Jesus says maintaining 1ness:
-: if some1 hurts u
*go to the person
*if that doesn’t work bring 1 more
*if that doesn’t work get the Church involved
- : If u hurt some1:
*go immediately & make it right
*even if ur in the middle of worship!

And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:51–52 ESV
51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.
