Paul and Timothy
Who was Timothy?
Dad a gentile - possibly unbeliever (due to Timothy not be circumcised as a youth
His mother and grandmother were Jewish and trained Timothy in the Old Testament
Timothy becomes a believer under Paul’s teaching (it was his first missionary journey) at Lystra in Pisidia, Asia Minor - - A.D. 47-48
Paul considers Timothy his son in the faith from this conversion -
Timothy follows Paul
He leaves with other new believers and follow Paul & Barnabas to nearby Iconium and Antioch (25-100 miles away).
Witness a man crippled healed
Witness Paul stoned, get up, and reenter the city
Timothy is left to share faith - Acts 16:2
Timothy is enlisted on Paul’s second missionary journey - and proceeded to meet Paul with other disciples in Troas -
Timothy went on to serve in Ephesus -
Paul asks Timothy to join him in Rome where he was imprisoned and many letters to believers were written at this time.-
Mentoring is the following:
It is Intentional
You must decide to be in relationship with another person to help them in grow
Pray / Seek / Ask
It is Communal
Spend time with the individual - listening and watching
Pray with them
Listen more than talking to them
It is Directed
Provide direction and tasks
Do not be afraid to call them out of their comfortability
There is Follow-up
A period for rest
A period to for new growth
