God Provided a King for Himself
God Provided a King for Himself
You can’t mess up God’s plan.
Despite Israel’s impatience, God was still in control.
God told Samuel “I have provided Myself a king”, in contrast to the people’s choice.
And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey their voice and make them a king.” Samuel then said to the men of Israel, “Go every man to his city.”
God’s provision - he sees to it.
God will see to it that His plan is accomplished, all we have to do is be willing to join Him.
David forshadows the Lord Jesus Christ. He is God’s anointed King!
God Prepared David to be King (7-12)
God Prepared David to be King (7-12)
God sees what man does not. He looks on the heart and even prepares a life for his purposes. “Man looks on the face, God looks all the way to the heart.”
We place a premium on externals: appearance, resume, measurables. God looks at the character.
“A Nobody, nobody noticed … except God.” - Charles Swindoll
David was overlooked and forgotten, but he learned to trust God in solitude.
You may think that life is boring, but even the quiet moments are training for God’s purposes.
David was given the duties no one else wanted, but God trained him to serve.
He was obedient to his father.
God taught David to Shepherd, because that was God’s heart for the nation of Israel.
Protect - Provide - Direct.
He become a type for the Good Shepherd, who will give his life for the sheep.
He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.
He chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds;

He chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds; from following the nursing ewes he brought him to shepherd Jacob his people, Israel his inheritance. With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand.
Even though David didn’t realize what was taking place, God was preparing him for the purpose He had for David. All he had to do was receive it. God will do the same in your life.
He prepared you to hear the Gospel, and to receive it.
He will prepare you for the purpose he has for your life. All you must do is accept.
God Empowered David for the Task (13)
God Empowered David for the Task (13)
God not only anointed David to be king he also prepared and equipped him.
God then enabled David to do what he had called him to do.
He will do the same for you and me.
