Praying Effectually

If you have been around the church for awhile you maybe familiar with the term “effectual fervent prayer,” right?
James 5:16 ESV
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
We serve a sovereign Lord who wants to hear from His children. He will have mercy on whomsoever He will and will do it in accordance to His timing.
Romans 9:15 ESV
15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
Knowing that, therefore there is no absolute formula or format for effectual fervent prayer. However, from this scripture and many others, we can see that “the effectual fervent prayer” that results in healing and restoration (both physically and spiritually) is connected to honesty, generosity, unselfishness, truthful confession of our faults as seen in
Proverbs 28:13 ESV
13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
and the pursuit of righteousness. In Jam1:5-6 we are told our prayers need to be filled with faith
James 1:5–6 ESV
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
Effectual, fervent prayer can be taught and therefore, we can study the biblical examples and teachings on this very important subject in order to learn how to become more effectual or effective in our prayers
Paul gives a great example in writing to the church at Colossi.
Colossians 1:3 ESV
3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
Thank God for others and pray for others
Colossians 1:9 ESV
9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
Pray asking God to help others to know the Lord’s will
Pray asking for God to give spiritual wisdom and understanding
Colossians 1:10 ESV
10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Pray that they may walk in a manner worthy, and pleasing to God.
Pray asking for increased knowledge of God
Colossians 1:11 ESV
11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;
Pray asking God to give them endurance and patience, that is coupled with joy.
Remember God wants to hear from us, He wants to work in us and through us,.
Think about how many people in our lives could be touched if we all learned to pray effectually.
