Today we’re going to look at this kind miracle. The birth of Jesus is without a doubt an event that changed the course of history.

We’re also going to see how there are over four hundred prophecies about Jesus written hundreds of years before he was ever born. As we look at how these prophecies came true, with 100% accuracy, we’ll be left with only one - WHY JESUS?

(Ask if anyone has visited places like World Trade Center site of Sept 11 attack, Revolutionary or Civil War battlegrounds, the Memphis hotel where Martin Luther King was shot, Washington DC, or Pearl Harbor. Be ready with an example of your own.)

In the video, David Nasser taught from Israel—known as the Holy Land. Millions of people have taken pilgrimages to holy, historical sites such as the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.

At certain times, like Christmas Eve, people will wait to get into the Church of the Nativity for up to 5 to 6 hours. There is something unforgettable about seeing, smelling, and touching history firsthand. It allows our knowledge to go from data to a real experience.

As you saw the actual places in Israel where the Old and New Testament took place, was there anything that surprised you about the places around the birth of Jesus?

In the video, David Nasser read Luke’s account of the birth of Christ, where the angel came to Mary to tell her that the prophecies about the coming of a Savior would be birthed through her—something that all Jews were taught. Why is it significant that Luke, the author of the book of Luke, was a doctor?

(A doctor certainly knows where babies come from. Luke’s also a strong respecter of science so it’s no coincidence that God allows a doctor to be the writer of the Christmas story.)

David explained the criteria of prophecy. He said, “A weatherman predicts the weather. A prophet tells the truth. If it’s 99% accurate, it’s not a prophecy.” So why are prophecies important?

(Prophecy proves that the Bible is true. That God is a God who keeps his promises. Most importantly, they help validate the claims and teachings of Christ. The Bible says that Jesus is the Son of God. The prophecies in the Old Testament being fulfilled in the New Testament allow us to see the Word of God in its fullness.)

As David Nasser stood on the southern steps of the Temple wall, he talked about the prophecy that Simeon received. Let’s take a look at that story.

Who was Simeon waiting for? (The Messiah.)

How did Simeon know where to wait for the Messiah? (God had told Simeon that he could not die until he saw the Messiah with his own eyes. God told him to go to the temple.)

How do you know that the prophecy came true? (When Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple to be consecrated, Simeon took Jesus in his arms and praised God that he saw the Savior. Now Simeon was ready to die.)

How can studying prophecies produce faith in Jesus? (The prophecies written in the Bible prove that Jesus is the Messiah. His virgin birth makes Jesus different than anyone else in history. Jesus is the only one to completely fulfill every prophecy about the coming Messiah. This is why Jesus is appropriately the central figure in the entire Bible.)
