Review
So, can anyone tell me what book of the bible were a learning about? (Acts) Good lets review.
Jesus died on the cross and then three days later He rose from the dead right?
Jesus then spends the next 40 days revealing himself to different people. Including His Disciples the 11 people He was closest to. There were 12 but Judas betrayed Jesus and is no longer a disciple.
That brings us to the beginning of Acts Jesus gives the disciple one last mission before going up to Heaven. Does anyone remember what that mission was. Hint: it was your memory verse.

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

A witness is a person who tell others about something they know. What if Jesus was speaking to us, He might say “You will be my witnesses in Lebanon, and in Missouri and in the United States and all over the Earth. “ Then Jesus goes up to Heaven and leaves the disciples to wait for this gift the Holy Spirit. But what is that and when will it come. So the disciples go to Jerusalem and wait. They pray and wait and choose a new disciple to take Judas’ place. now there are twelve again. Who hates to wait for things? Who gets impatient? me too.

They wait almost a week and nothing. Finally it’s the day of Pentecost which is a huge festival for the Jewish people. It means fiftieth day and comes 50 days after the Passover, which is the day Jesus died. The festival is the celebration of when God gave Moses the 10 commandments 50 days after Isreal escaped Egypt. So this was a big deal. what are some big holidays for us now? This festival was so big that people from every country was there to worship God.
Then this is what the Bible says in .

On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. 2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting.

that must have been loud. I need a couple volunteers. Let me hear you best rushing wind sound.

3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

5 At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. 6 When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.

They were completely amazed. “How can this be?” they exclaimed. “These people are all from Galilee, 8 and yet we hear them speaking in our own native languages! 9 Here we are—Parthians, Medes, Elamites, people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, the province of Asia, 10 Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the areas of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism), Cretans, and Arabs. And we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done!” 12 They stood there amazed and perplexed. “What can this mean?” they asked each other.

13 But others in the crowd ridiculed them, saying, “They’re just drunk, that’s all!”

Then Peter who not more than 2 months earlier was running scared and denying he even knew Jesus was now standing in front of all the people giving a great sermon. lead by the Holy spirit. He finished saying this

“So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!”

37 Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”

38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” 40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!”

41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.

The Holy Spirit is God’s spirit, God Himself living in us. He can give us power and courage to do want God wants us to. but understand that He is not a magical genie that can give you whatever you want. When you turn to God follow Jesus and are baptized when your old enough you receive the Holy Spirit to help you.
