We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. 3 For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.” 4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 5 May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, 6 that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.
Christ the Hope of Jews and Gentiles

What is the responsibility of the local church? The Lord has place St Luke here at the time to be an asset to this community. Paul writes the Roman church with lessons of how to really strengthen the church. This is a good message today because the church has become weakened by division, separateness, and discourse. Paul says there is a better way for the Church to behave. Its just this simple we should be examples of Christ! This have been our challenge from day one. Will God get the Glory out of our lives. When he looks low and see us what does he see? Does he see a community of believers who care for one another? Are we esteeming Christ in our walk? Today I am here to remind everyone you are welcomed here. The back to Church theme says you belong here. Yes you belong here as well as are welcomed here. Yet in order to make sure you feel welcomed
Obligation To Bear with failings of the weak.
1st Paul said We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak. Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Watch this Strength is for service, not status! Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?”
Look what verse 2 says: 2 Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For Christ did not please himself, but as it was written The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me. Paul quotes the Psalmist 69:9 For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.
People in our neighborhood are hurting! They have physical burdens, they have financial burdens, they have emotional burdens, and they don’t know where to turn. We need to conduct ourselves in such a way, building community, so that the people who are hurting know they can come to us and be lifted up. To become a community church we need to be aware, and actively looking to see who needs our help. Then we need to give them what they need!
We have an obligation to build this community by using our skills and gifts to serve others.
(New Living Translation)
8 Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.
10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.
It’s a simple matter, we need each other. We are to graciously serve one another without regard to what it may cost us. Serve each other joyfully and when needed, not just when it is convenient for us. I’m using the word serve, because it is an active word. To serve our community is more than to just talk about its needs, it is putting feet to the talk.
TRUE SERVICE
Self-righteous service comes through human effort. True service comes from a relationship with the divine Other deep inside.
Self-righteous service is impressed with the “big deal.” True service finds it almost impossible to distinguish the small from the large service.
Self-righteous service requires external rewards. True service rests contented in hiddenness.
Self-righteous service is highly concerned about results. True service is free of the need to calculate results.
Self-righteous service picks and chooses whom to serve. True service is indiscriminate in its ministry.
Self-righteous service is affected by moods and whims. True service ministers simply and faithfully because there is a need.
Self-righteous service is temporary. True service is a lifestyle.
Self-righteous service is without sensitivity. It insists on meeting the need even when to do so would be destructive. True service can withhold the service as freely as perform it.
9  For zeal for your house has consumed me,
Self-righteous service fractures community. True service, on the other hand, builds community.

A true community church will bear each other’s burdens and serve one another.
III. In bearing one another’s burdens, we are following the example of Jesus Christ.
Christ bore a burden that was not His. When we bear the burdens of our community we are following the example of our Lord. Christ didn’t die on the cross because it was a fun thing to do, or because it was the convenient thing to do, Christ died on the cross because it was the necessary thing to do.
Obligation to have Hope
4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. The scripture gives us hope. We have to find it through scripture though. When we read scripture we look for opportunities to have hope.
We all need to be lifted up and encouraged at times and the Bible is a great source for encouragement. The Bible is the living word of God and feeds us through the promises of God found in scripture.
fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
When we need strength we can read scriptures so we don’t lose heart!
It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

He frees us from the burden of living bound. so much so we can live in harmony. It is only through the Holy Spirit that we have liberty that gives us harmony. When we are unable to live in harmony is a tell tell sign that Christ is not working in us or through us. You will notice the more Christ you have the easier it is to forgive and release! We can only be on one accord through Christ! Christ gives us a single voice. What’s our one voice? is it bringing glory to God?
