Revival vs Awakening
Billye Brim, “A case could be made for saying that a revival could be described as a unique visitation by God’s Spirit on God’s people, but an awakening as a time of such intense visitation that both Christian and non christian people are affected. Revivals alter lives of individuals, awakens alter the culture of an entire people.”
Revival - MW; to live again, return to conciousness; renewed attention or interest in something
Awakening - MW; become aware or alert about something, not asleep, stir up
Acts 3:19 NKJV
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,
When God is bringing an awakening - Resistance will come

AMP But whoever speaks abusively against or maliciously misrepresents the Holy Spirit can never get forgiveness, but is guilty of and is in the grasp of an everlasting trespass. For they persisted in saying, He has an unclean spirit.

Prior to 1994 they rarely saw anyone fall out, occasionally every few years maybe one. Healings were rare. Suddenly 100’s fell out in each meeting. Manifesations - shouting, Tongues, shaking, laughing

Revivals have historically always had nay-sayers
John Arnott had doubts - “I kept on telling God, I don’t understand. Why are you doing this? I don’t understand, I don’t understand...” Until God spoke to my heart and said, “John, you don’t even understand women! Why would you think you’d understand Me?” Wow, I thought. That helped me realize that I was just going to have to live with the fact that God will always do things I don’t understand and that’s okay. I just have to trust Him and receive what He is doing by faith.”
Margaret Poloma (christian sociologist) asked to interview a cross section of people who were falling out under the power of the Spirit in Toronto. Arnott was concerned at first but respected that she loved God and relented. Surveyed 1000 people as a sample. The survey results showed 92% testified being more in love with Jesus after the experience then ever before. 82% more motivated and excited about sharing Jesus with others.
What are the fruit of the revival? (salvations, healings, deliverance, unity, powerful teaching, new revelation of Fathers love, personal and public outbursts of joy and repentance, forgiveness, personal and public peace, boldness for the gospel)
What are the fruit of the nay sayers? (fear, doubt, anger, pride and judgement, separation and division)
NKJV In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.
John Arnott speaking in Hamilton. Little girl prophesies in perfect rhyme. John falls out and later at their car “For some reason the remote central locking wasn’t working so I was trying to get the car key into the door lock and I just couldn’t do it. Then I began laughing and laughing. I remember thinking several things as I stood there laughing at 1:00 am in the morning. First of all, I was thinking, I’m laughing so loud and yet nothings funny! What am I laughing at? The second was My mouth is open so wide, it’s not how I normally laugh. Finally, we got in the car and went to McDonalds for a coffee. No sooner had I walked in there than it all hit me again! One could reasonably ask, what was that all about? The fact is, I don’t know, but it was fun. It was childlike and the love of God was so near, so real, the joy of the Lord so explosive. The peace of God that came after it was amazing, I didn’t have a care in the world.” Is laughter of God? In church?
NKJVA merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.
