The Parable

Vs A sower went out to sow
-So immediatly we are intoducted to the fact that this is a farming parable.
-Jesus used a lot of imagry from farming, but that is what they understood.
-It was a very real…real life picture that they have seen over and over again.
-It is certainly possible that that crowed gathered around to here Jesus as he taught could look in the distance and actually see a sower sowing seed.
-A person would not have to be a farmer to understand the story Jesus was telling…becuase that had seen it over and over again.
-Sower- would be in his field
-a bag of seed
-walk in and around his field allow these narrow paths
-reaching into his bag to pull out a handful of seeds and broadcast them by hand.
Because his broadcasted by hand, he could not always accurately get the seeds exactly where he wanted it to go.
Vs 4 some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.
-Path (way side)- refers to narrow pathways that would be used to separate fields, allow travelers passage through, and allow the sower access to different parts of the field
-It was this traveling and trodding of feet that cause the soil on the path to become compacted and hard.
-and what we see is the seed to penetrate the soil and birds come along and snatch the see away.
Vs 5 Introduced to “rocky ground” READ VERSE 5-6
Matthew 13:5–6 ESV
Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away.
Matthew 13:5-
Rocky ground - is not soil with rocks in it.
-in that region is was coming to have some ground have beds of limestone hidden under the soil.
-The limestone sometimes would at such a depth that the plows would not reach it…so the farmer may not know
-It was such a bummer too...
-The seeds would sprout…it gave the appearance of everything look as if it ought to be…for a while.
-Because there was no depth of soil…the sun rose and burned up the plant
-It had no healthy root system, therefore could not get the water it required and withered away.
-Spouting up long enough to show foliage, but no fruit.
Vs 7 Thorny Soil
Matthew 13:7 ESV
Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.
The soil…cultivated and looked good.
-Seed broacasted...
-And before the seeds could ever establish themselves as a healthy plant, the thorns grew up and chocked them out.
-But before
-Thorny weeds would take over the space…keeping water, nutreance, and needed sunlight away from the good seed.
-
GOOD SOIL VS 8
-Seed fell upon it…and it produced grain to varying degress
-Some a hundredfold, some sixy, and some thirty
SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Vs 18-23 JESUS INTERPRETS THE PARABLE FOR US.
SEED - Is the Word of Kingdom
-the word of God...
-The Gospel
-ANd those Gospel seed are sown by a sower...
SOWER - in this case is Jesus Christ
Matthew 13:37 ESV
He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.
BUT…In a more general sense, the Sower is ANYONE WHO BROADCASTS THE GOSPEL MESSAGE.
-When I stepped upon this pulpit for the express reason to broacasting the Word of God...
-Then where it says in VERSE 3...”A SOWER WENT OUT TO SOW” became real...
-Instantly manifested before your eyes.
-As you go through your day being obedient to share the Gospel with your friends, family, and coworkers…you LIVE VERSE 3! A SOWER WENT OUT TO SOW.
I. BEING A SOWER OF THE WORD REQUIRES INTENTIONALITY
a. THE SOWER WENT TO SOW
b. THE SOWER DID NOT ACCIDENTALLY STUMBLE INTO SOWING SEED THAT DO.
C. He went out with the express mission of sowing Gospel seeds.
-When he left his home, he had in his mind that he would go about doing his farm work…WE SHOULD BE OF THE SAME MINDSET doing Kingdom Work
-He strapped his seed sack across his shoulders and went about looking for every opportunity he could find to apply seed to the soil....to apply Gospel to the heart!
D. There will be times when you faithful broadcast seed and you do not get the results you hoped and prayed for.
E..BUT PRAISE GOD…There will be times when someone somewhere hear the Gospel and it takes root…it sprouts up…and it produces fruit.
F. THE RESULTS OF THE GOSPEL FAITHFUL SHARED IS NOT UP TO YOU...
-EVER
SOme will reject…some will scoff…some will recieve it with joy, but fade…and some will truly take hold of it and thrive
-
-BUT ONE THING…IS CERTAIN…A SEED NEVER BROADCASTED…EVER HAS THE OPPERTUNITY TO GROW
