Introduction: Kotter’s Class of misfits- Episode 1: The Great Debate
Illustration: On September 9, 1975, ABC debuted Welcome Back, Kotter in front of a live studio audience. This show was an American sitcom starring Gabe Kaplan as a grimly mocking or cynical high school teacher in charge of a racially and ethnically diverse remedial class called the "Sweathogs".
A class of misfits who always rise to the occasion with the help of Mr. Kotter
Each episode Mr. Kotter corrects them but will not let anyone else to correct them inappropriately
Well every week, we, God’s band of merry misfits
Gather together at the church to be taught and put back together
Through the preaching of the WORD of God
Some of you today may be misfits who left the church and came
Maybe you left the church because something bad happened
Maybe someone did not handle you properly
Maybe you left because you loved the world more than the church once upon a time
Then something in life happened to you
It changed your whole perspective and outlack
God moved in your life to correct what you had been doing wrong

Well, son, I’ll tell you:
Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
It’s had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
I’se been a-climbin’ on,
And reachin’ landin’s,
And turnin’ corners,
And sometimes goin’ in the dark
Where there ain’t been no light.
So boy, don’t you turn back.
Don’t you set down on the steps
’Cause you finds it’s kinder hard.
Don’t you fall now—
For I’se still goin’, honey,
I’se still climbin’,
And life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.

Chapter 1- The LORD God humbles the complacent
Chapter 2- The LORD God humbles the arrogant
Body
Body
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Chapter 2- The LORD God humbles the arrogant
The LORD your God is in your midst
The LORD your is a mighty one who will save
The LORD your God will rejoice over you with gladness
The LORD your God will quiet you by his love
The LORD your God will show jubilation
if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth. Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

Maybe today as you sit in your seat
You are probably wondering how to deal with tomorrow’s problem
Maybe the devil’s got your back up against wall
And you are backed into a corner
And you do not know what to do
Maybe today you find yourself having wandered off
Off of the right path of walking faithfully with the LORD
Of the right path of walking faithfully with the LORD
Maybe your bad life situation is all of your own making- a direct result of your own sinful life
But all things, the good, the bad, and the ugly are working
Grab you neighbor by the hand
Shake ‘em and rock ‘em
Rock ‘em and shake ‘em
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Grab you neighbor by the hand
Shake ‘em and rock ‘em
Rock ‘em and shake ‘em
Say neighbor, I’ve come this far by faith
Leaning on the LORD
Trusting in His holy WORD
It never failed we yet!
Well my Bible says:
It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.
“It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.
The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.”
Psalms 119:71-72 ESV
And it was Jesus who said
“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
And, my Bible says in
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5 ESV

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. My son, do not despise the Lord 's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.”
Proverbs 3:5-12 ESV
http://bible.com/59/pro.3.5-12.esv
Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
“"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”
Luke 15:4-7 ESV
http://bible.com/59/luk.15.4-7.esv
Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
“"Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.' Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents."”

It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’ ”
“"But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants."' And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to celebrate.
It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.'"”

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

Good bye Cathedral of Life
Good bye Cathedral of Life
May the good LORD bless you really really real good
But before I take my seat, may I tell you a little something:
It’s good to be back in the fellowship!
I am so glad to see all of you tonight!
In fact,
I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
“I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord!"”
Psalms 122:1 ESV

But since I’m Baptist
I cannot leave before I mention somebody else
Who knows a thing or two about coming back
And being back in the fellowship and getting a son back!
In fact He so was happy to have His son back!
And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”
“And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself." He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die. So the crowd answered him, "We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?"”

He is Jesus the Christ
The only begotten Son of God
The father’s beloved son
Because everything Jesus does he does it well
He’s the Rose of Sharon
He’s the Lilly in the valley
He’s the bright and Morning star
Mother to Son
Mother to Son
The perfect Lamb of God
Who takes away the sins of the world
He’s the great I am
Because before there was anything else
Jesus already existed
In the beginning was the WORD,
And the WORD was with God
And the WORD was God
He is the King glory
“Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!”
Psalms 24:8 ESV
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle!
Where would you be,
It had not been for the LORD on your side
“Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.”

And....
And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Hebrews 4:
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.
Then the Lord appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time. And as for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, doing according to all that I have commanded you and keeping my statutes and my rules, then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man to rule Israel.’
