5 Admonitions on how I should be walking with God

Colossians 2:6–7 NKJV
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
How did we receive Christ?
Faith is like a muscle - the more its excercised the stronger
What is faith?
Faith is taking God at his word & Acting accordingly
The more you know the more you grow. (Importance of discipline of Bible Study)
Growth affects our Walk
Truth is where I get my traction
Beliefs should affect our behavior - Beware of the person who is ever growing in knowledge and yet is growing colder to those who are different than them.
Knowledge or Application

1. Walk Worthy of your calling.

Ephesians 4:1–3 NKJV
1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Ephesians 4:1–4 NKJV
I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;
DId you know you have a calling on your life?
There are expectations for believers and how they live and behave. Our lives are characterized by influence & how we conduct ourselves determines which type of influence.
Beseech - Plea
How you live displays what you think of Christ, His sacrifice, & Calling for your life.
“ Your testimony is the only thing you truly own in this life” unknown
A life Characterized by Lowliness (humility), gentleness (kindness), longsuffering (patience), diligence (endeavoring), unity.
Picture a puppy and older dog, always picking and annoying.
1 Thessalonians 2:12–13 NKJV
12 that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory. 13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.
1 Thessalonians 2:10–12 NKJV
10 You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe; 11 as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, 12 that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
Ephesians 4:1 NKJV
I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,
Ephesians 4:1–2 NKJV
I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,
Paul linked behavior and lifestyle to his calling.
Colossians 1:10 NKJV
10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Colossians 1:8–10 NKJV
8 who also declared to us your love in the Spirit. 9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Colossians 1:9–10 NKJV
9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
1thes2.
Paul's prayer for the churches.

2. Walk in holiness.

Ephesians 4:17–24 NKJV
17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Paul's saying that there should be a difference from our moment of salvation.
eph4.17-
Futility of mind - Emptines
Understanding Darkened
Alienated from Life
Blindness of heart - Lost people will act like lost people without hesitation.
Put off - Renew your mind - Put on new man
Renewing your mind is the key to putting off and putting on.
Romans 12:2 NKJV
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

3. Walk in love.

Ephesians 5:1–2 NKJV
1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
This love is an unconditional, sacrificial Love
Christ is the example that is held up.
What would it look life if we were truly walking in love?
1 Corinthians 13:1–3 NKJV
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
Love sees needs, Love meets needs, Love pushes us out of the our comfort zones.
John 13:35 NKJV
35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

4. Walk in Light.

Ephesians 5:8–10 NKJV
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
Light exposes darkness everytime… Walk in the light, why would you continue to stumble in darkness?
Psalm 119:105 NKJV
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Gods will is found in the light. How often do we find ourselves seeking direction in the dark?
An understood of principle that we have lost somehow is that executing Gods will was a priority and it was bigger than attendance.
I fear modern Christianity is painting the wrong picture of what it means to be a disciple. (carrying a cross or feeling good about attendance.)
John 83
John 8:12 NKJV
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
eph 5
Matthew 5:16 NKJV
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

5. Walk in Wisdom.

5. Walk in Wisdom.

Ephesians 5:15–17 NKJV
15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
circumspectly - carfulness, exactness, preciseness
Stepping on rocks across creek
eph 5.15-17
redeeming the time - Making most of every oppurtunity.
Why? Because the days are evil
People are dying and heaven is not the default destination
Schools are not seeking to teach our kids to honor and serve God
Satan has not stopped setting traps and seeking to devour and destroy lives.
Don’t be unwise but understand… Its not mysterious and hidden?
Colossians 4:5–6 NKJV
5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
Look what we says to the Church in Collosse..
The will of God is for people to be saved, and he has authorized and empowered his Church to be His mouthpiece.
2 Peter 3:15 NKJV
15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,
1 Peter 3:15 NKJV
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
2pet
1 Peter 3:9 NKJV
9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
2 Peter 3:9 NKJV
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
This is what i want to leave you with...
Are you walking with the Lord? & How are you walking in the world?
Is your behavior consistant with His Calling?
Are your living a holy life?
Are you walking in the light?
Is Christ love on display in your walk?
Are you walking wisely, seeking to let His light shine throught you.
Don’t be distracted by how far you need to go, Simpy focus on that next step and develop that rhythm for life.
