I Am A Church Member - Part 3

Kidz World Today - Children’s Church
1 Corinthians 12:27 NKJV
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.
Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith!
I Will Be a Unifying Church Member
Jesus requires those who are members of the body of Christ to get along
John 13:34–35 NKJV
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
There were three reasons this new commandment on love was needed by every generation of members of the Body of Christ
1. There are times when we believe differently. There is always the danger of becoming critical, judgmental, censorious, and divisive.
Luke 22:24–30 NKJV
24 Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest. 25 And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’ 26 But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. 27 For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves. 28 “But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. 29 And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, 30 that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
Even the disciples had been arguing over who should receive the highest positions of authority in Jesus' new government
They had been struggling against each other and were highly critical and judgmental of each other. They were divided. The need for love existed then even as it does today.
2. There are times when we feel a need for Jesus' physical presence.
We have the Holy Spirit, and He is the all-sufficient Comforter. But being human, we need another human presence with us. We need a brother or a sister, a genuine believer who loves us with the supernatural love of Jesus Himself. I believe Jesus knew this, so He commanded us to love each other. We are to meet the needs of each other for companionship and fellowship and for care and concern.
3. There is the need for some supernatural force to hold the us together
and that something is LOVE
We Need Unity
Ephesians 4:1–3 NLT
1 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.
You have a responsibility as a church member. You are to be a source of unity. You are never to be a divisive force. You are to love your fellow church members unconditionally. And while that doesn’t mean you agree with everyone all the time, it does mean you are willing to sacrifice your own preferences to keep unity in your church.
Colossians 3:14 NIV
14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Colossians 3:14 NLT
14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
Paul said “Above All”
Now here’s what get’s in the way
Romans 1:29–31 NLT
29 Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. 30 They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. 31 They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy.
James 3:6 NLT
6 And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.
1 Peter 3:10 NLT
10 For the Scriptures say, “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.
Unity in the church will not happen if members have unforgiving hearts.
Matthew 6:14–15 NKJV
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:14–15 NLT
14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Colossians 3:12–13 NLT
12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Biblical church membership is about sacrificing, giving, and forgiving.
