Ronald Reagan, told the following story: “I once addressed a very large, distinguished audience in Mexico City and sat down to rather scattered and unenthusiastic applause. And I was somewhat embarrassed, even more so when the next man who spoke, a representative of the Mexican government speaking in Spanish, which I don’t understand, was being interrupted virtually every other line with the most enthusiastic kind of applause. To hide my embarrassment, I started clapping before anyone else and longer than anyone else until our ambassador leaned over and said to me, ‘I wouldn’t do that if I were you; he’s interpreting your speech.’”
I. Arrogance is an Attitude of the Heart
Dictionary of Bible Themes 5793 arrogance
Proud and unpleasant behaviour towards other people, based on a belief in one’s own superiority or greater importance.
Arrogance is a powerful thing. It makes you think you a bigger and better than anyone else around you, and in the process you become what you fear self absorbed .
King James Version Psalm 10
The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor:
Let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.
3 For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire,
And blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth
In and 3. We read here that the psalmist is describing the arrogance of the wicked. Here they oppress the innocent and poor. We get to the point when we only want what we want it doesn't matter who we hurt to get it. We want what our heart desires.
20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
II. Arrogance is rebelling against God
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God:
God is not in all his thoughts.
His ways are always grievous;
Thy judgments are far above out of his sight:
As for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.
He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved:
For I shall never be in adversity.
When we become arrogant we think we don't need God any more. We treat God with contempt . WHO NEEDS YOU! I don't need him we become our on god we become the person we depend upon, we are relying on our own power. We think nothing is going to happen. We almost sup statute as like we are in God’s will and everything is going great!
III. God will punish the arrogant
But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
God punishes Nebuchadnezzar for his arrogance and takes his Kingdom away.
15 Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man:
Seek out his wickedness till thou find none.
16 The Lord is King for ever and ever:
The heathen are perished out of his land.
Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man:
Seek out his wickedness till thou find none.
The Lord is King for ever and ever:
The heathen are perished out of his land.
The lofty looks of man shall be humbled,
And the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down,
And the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.
Only God can be lifted up as he tells us in this verse. Don’t be to prideful you cant see whats going on, because God does. Do you need to be knocked down a couple of notches to get your attention or does God need to let you hit rock bottom?
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Don’t let this be you are you so prideful you think that what you are doing is going to save you even if you do it for Christ, Please don't be so naive to think that just because you go to church or go on a mission field or even pastor a church, that means you are saved.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
