I. The Fishermen at Sea

  • There were seven disciples with Christ – 1-2
  • Let’s consider Three of Christ’s disciples

Let’s consider Peter

  • Peter was called by Christ Mt. 4:18-19
  • The Bible teaches Peter had a wife – Mt. 8:14
  • Peter was an apostle – Mt. 10:2
  • Peter walked on water (We should be careful in judging Peter) – Mt. 14:29
  • Peter saw Christ changed before his eyes.– Mt. 17:1-4
  • Peter said, I would deny Christ – Mt. 26:33
  • Sadly, Peter denies Christ THREE times!

Let’s consider Nathaniel

  • John 1:45 Phillip finds Nathanial ( We should be looking for others)
  • John 1:46 Can anything good thing come out of Nazareth?
  • John 1:47 Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! ( Jesus really knows our hearts)
  • John 1:48 - I saw thee (God sees everything we do) Omniscence
  • John 1:49 - Nathanial - "thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel."

Let’s consider Thomas - Doubted that Christ Arrose

  • John 11:16 - Let us also go, that we may die with him.
  • John 14:5 - How can we know the way?
  • John 20:24 - Thomas, was not with them when Jesus came.
  • John 20:26 - And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
  • John 20:27 - Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
  • John 20:28 - Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God

II.        JESUS ON THE SHORE (4-25)

  • Vs. 4-5 Jesus calls his disciples – but they did not recognize Him.
  • How much do we really know the Lord Jesus Christ?
  • Vs. 6a - We find the command of Christ
  • 6b – The catch was immediately, God told the fish to get in that net.
  • Verse 7, John recognizes Jesus first and tells Peter.
  • Fish & Bread (Jesus is the Bread of Life
  • Jesus satisfies the soul of man.
  • Jesus gives peace.
  • Jesus defeated death.
  • Christ gives peace.
  • After they obeyed the Lord, they caught 153 fish!
  • Vs. 12-14 Here we see fellowship with Christ; imagine having breakfast with Christ, the Creator of the World, and Jesus personally served them!  What an example.
  • Vs 15-17 – Peter’s opportunity to confess his love for Jesus. Three times he denied Christ, three times Jesus asked him if he loved Him?
  • Verse18-19 The Cross - Jesus predicts Peter will die a martyrs’ death. Peter would be crucified upside down.

Consider Peters concern (20-21)

  • How will John die?
  • Jesus tells Peter what is that to you? (John 21:22)
  • False rumors spread that John will not die.

How does this apply to us? John 21:24-25
