See you at the Pole
Wed Sept 26th in the morning before school
My first SYATP experience
Proclamation of my faith
Mormon present, awkwardness. She walked away.
Everyone chatted
It’s next week!
High school is difficult; being a Christian can make things worse
What does going to SYATP mean for you, and is it worth it?

Daniel
Daniel context
When Daniel realized that a written decree had been issued, he entered his home, where the windows in his upper room opened toward Jerusalem. Three times daily he was kneeling and offering prayers and thanks to his God just as he had been accustomed to do previously. Then those officials who had gone to the king came by collusion and found Daniel praying and asking for help before his God. So they approached the king and said to him, “Did you not issue an edict to the effect that for the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or human other than to you, O king, would be thrown into a den of lions?” The king replied, “That is correct, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be changed.” Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the captives from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or to the edict that you issued. Three times daily he offers his prayer.”
Daniel’s relationship with God
Not pride, nor accident, nor legalism, but love for God
Regardless when people don’t like it or are watching, Daniel knows what matters most. He knows God will be with Him.
Daniel ending
God’s Power and Glory are immeasurable
This is what Christianity/SYATP is about
Life’s penetrated by the wonder of Christ at the cost of all else
God is powerful to provide and overcome obstacles
Priorities remain—God is first
Loving God in a world that Loves Sin
Daniel was an upright man
Religiously involved
Same man in every aspect of life
Some of you are different here than when you’re at school
Sign of a spiritual sickness

I want you to be spiritually well. Here’s a chance today to rededicate yourself
Attending SYATP is a very public statement. Has your private/public/social media life been consistent as a witness of Christ?
Would people be shocked that you attend?
Would you going as a representative be a misrepresentation of Christ?
I don’t want to discourage you—deeply reflect
Nobody is perfect, but if your default is vulgarity and selfishness then you need to abandon that lifestyle and put Christ first
I want you to be spiritually well. Here’s a chance today to rededicate yourself
SYATP
We’re going to break out into groups by school!
[have kids call out schools and I’ll assign where they go]
Leaders can choose which school groups they want to join. If we don’t have enough leaders, please select someone to responsibly lead the group.
If there is only one person from a school, come see me [then put with others with one person]

See You At The Pole
Is there a SYATP organized at your school? Will you be there? Do you know who’s going?
- is someone already organizing SYATP at my school (being in Texas, SYATP should be pretty long running and established already)? If not, how can I take initiative to organize it? Who do I need to talk to before Wednesday? Think about bringing a guitar or even pick out some songs, or come up with some prayer topics, ahead of time in case no one else is ready to lead in song/prayer.

What can we do to pray?
- what time is SYATP? Where is our flag pole? Which flag pole? If it rains, what is plan B?

Who at school (teachers/students) needs prayer? What are the spiritual and emotional/physical needs of the school?
- what will I do if I am the only one that shows up?

Our Own Lives
Does the story of Daniel cause you to think differently about prayer or trusting God in your public life?
What does your prayer life look like? What are some reasons people struggle with regular prayer, and what do you think can help with that?
Be Like Daniel
Who at school (teachers/students) needs prayer? What are the spiritual and emotional/physical needs of the school? Who are teachers/classmates that are hurting? Who are teachers/classmates that don't know Jesus?
Are there any fellow classmates that are believers you can partner with in ministry and prayer?
Prayer
Take prayer requests and pray for one another.
Closing
Closing
After my 1st SYATP meeting
Became the Vice President of the Christian club
Evangelized Mormons and unbelievers the entire year
Will you consider going?
SYATP is just one event, but the glory of Jesus compels us to represent Him at all times
Let’s start the year out well
What will putting God first in your life look like this year? Think of a practical way—reading the Bible every morning before school with a classmate, setting time aside every evening?
Make a commitment to God in your heart through prayer—bow heads
[Closing prayer]
BRACELETS!!!
Get people’s phone numbers if you want to connect and make sure they meet you next week at the Pole!
Please go to your own school’s SYATP; prayer is not the only point, but it’s representing Jesus together as one school body.
