who we are not to seal from therefore we cannot take anything that belongs to someone else.
A. Human Beings
It has always been understood to mean that we cannot seal another human being which means that there is no way we can justify slavery through the Bible.

Nearly all slavery in the Bible was indentured servitude- THe selling of oneself to another persin for a fixed period of time in order to work off a debt. and had nothing to do with kid
W
Stealing a person’s reputation through slander or gossip is an awful form of theft because ones a person’s reputation has been stolen it can rarely be fully restored

Exodus 20:16 CSB
16 Do not give false testimony against your neighbor.
This command has two main points it addresses
1. you do not lie
2. Do not lie when testifying in court
A society cannot survive a contempt for truth weather it is inside or outside the courtroom.
The Hebrew Bible was so firm on this that the punishment given to someone who gave a false testimony was the same as the punishment that would have been given to the accused if he had been found guilty. up to and including death.
if the crime that the false testimony was given at the false witness would have been put to death.
However, this command shows its concern for truth both within and outside of a courtroom.
However, this command shows its concern for truth both within and outside of a courtroom.
Brevard Childs one of the best commentators in the 20th centaury stated
“If the Ten Commandments were solely concerned with truth and falsehood in a courtroom, it would have added words such as “in court””
Truth is the most important value in society for it to survive.
All evil in society such as the Nazi’s, communists, and slavery were centered around lies.
Many of those in these great evils were compassionate, but they believed, and some told a great lie that allowed them to participate in a great evil and this still happends today for great evil to exist.
1. Black slavery-Blacks were sub-Human
2. The Holliscost- Jews were inferior to so-called Aryans
In order to murder millions a vast amount of normal even decent people must believe lies
In order to murder millions a vast amount of normal even decent people must believe lies-Abortion
Discuss Abortion
Mass evil is committed not because people seek to be evil but because they are indoctrinated with lies that convince them that what is evil is actually good.
The issue however is many lie even for good causes to promote their cause
The issue however is many lie even for good causes to promote their cause
in the 1980 the leading activist for homelessness said that there were 2-3 million homeless in the united states years later he admitted that that number was inflated and the accrual number was between 250,000-350,000.
groups that fight against cancer were caught exaggerating the number of Women who get Brest cancer each year in order to frighten more women into getting mammograms
It is not by any means wrong for us to want to cure Cancer and get rid of homelessnes, but if we lie to do it it is sin.
Even lying on behalf of a good cause is destructive and breaks this command. it can also distort societies priorities and therefore do great harm to the society.

Do not lie when testifying in court
This command is there to warn all of us that with very few exceptions. no cause is more important than being honest.
A society cannot survive a contempt for truth weather it is inside or outside the courtroom.
A society cannot be maintained if it is not based on truth.
Do not lie when testifying in court
give a few exceptions
The Hebrew Bible was so firm on this that the punishment given to someone who gave a false testimony was the same as the punishment that would have been given to the accused if he had been found guilty. up to and including death. if the crime that the false testimony was given at the false witness would have been put to death.

However this comand shows its concern for truth both within and outside of a courtroom.
