Conquering Fear
During the announcements
So as many of you know I went last week to staff at Fellowship of the Sword and there was a common theme among the men that I went to serve, and that common theme, that common thread, and as I may suspect may be common here in this congreagation, Was Fear.
Today we are going to be taking about fear and how to defeat it.
I know so many people that operate out of fear, everything they do has its roots in fear.
I heard stories about a father that would back out of his driveway in the morning, make the block and then come back to make sure that one of his small children didn’t accidently slip out of the house and get under his vehicle as he drove away.
I know parents that parent out of fear.
My wife has told me many stories over the years about how her mother constantly parented out of a spirit of fear.
Rest stops- a truck driver will kidnap you
College years- don’t jog at night time around the campus, someone will get you.
I am not talking about parenting foolishly, but I am talking about parenting, or living out of a Spirit of fear.
If you will allow it you will live and everything you do will involve fear.
And fear is a tormenter.
Today we are going to talk about a love that conquers all fear, having a balance to fear.
I would much rather you to operate out of wisdom and courage, rather than fear and unbelief.
Wel
Now the context of this passage is it is being written by the Apostle Paul, how is in prison writing to Timothy his younger protege
Where was he?
He was in the Mamertine Prison.
If you visit Rome, go across from the Roman Forum and ask somebody to show you the Mamertine Prison, and go down into that dark, filthy pit where the apostle Paul was there, abused, misused, neglected, threatened, waiting to be killed.
You don’t find any fear in Paul—not the spirit of fear there.
As a matter of fact, he’s telling Timothy, “I’m in prison, but I know whom I have believed; () and, Timothy, God has not given us the spirit of fear.”

Intro into Sermon
So today we are going to be talking about conquering our fears.
Now understand that when I typed up this sermon I am coming off the heals of an entire week of seeing men face their fears and conquer them.
There is something satsfying to see people come out of bondage of fear and live with courage and faith.
You cannot have fear and faith at the same time, and you cannot be perfected in love without.
I did not want to preach this message with a bunch of fluff and atta-boy theology.
2 timothy
But let me say this, that either the Word of God is true, and He really hasn’t given us a spirit of fear, But of Love, Power, and a Sound Mind.
Or it isn’t....
And we can continue to manage fear, control fear, diagnose fear as a disease and give you some medicine.
You have a decision to make?
I can’t make that decision for you
Or we can receive what the Lord has for us and we can abide in in the Spirit of Love (Let me say this that if you do not have a Spirit of love about you, then you may have a spirit of woundness about you and that lends to fear.
or you may have a Spirit of hatred, resentfulness, or bitterness and these will harbor fear, and depression.
Because you are made to love, what do you mean I am made to love, you are made to love, because you bear the image of God and God is love.
Abide in the Spirit of Power, and abide in a Spirit that has a sound mind.
A mind that is sound, resolute, clear thinking, not ruled by emotion but transformed by the Word of God
Now lets be honest there is a lot to fear out there?
Right you have sickness, death, disease, perverts, all manner of criminals.
You have the Russians the Chinese,Jihadists, and creepy clowns.
You have the overall fragile nature of life, You have sin and sin that we have commited, then you have a Holy and Righteous God and a place called Hell.
Yeah thats a real place that many don’t want to talk about today.
And that doesn’t even cover fraction of the smallest percentage of all the things there are too be afraid of.
Some of you are thinking well i wasn’t afraid until I got here!
Just hold on I’m getting to the good news!
That is the bi product of living in a broken, fallen world
But is ther hope?
Is there a solid place for every man, woman, boy and girl to stand?
Turn your Bibles to
Do you know when fear really set into man’s soul?
At the fall.
Go back and read Genesis chapter 3 and you will see that fear.
When Adam fell into sin He ushered in a spirit of fear with it.
He hid from the presence of God.
But god being the loving merciful God he is sought aftyer Adam, much like he is seeking after many of you today.
Not only did He seek after Adfam but God gave Adam and His wife proper clothing.
An animal had to be sacrificed to cover their nakedness, but that is how much God loved them, because that covering, would symbolize something much greater?
What is that something greater?
Well its what John is speaking of here,
that which was from the begining.... Jesus is not a temporary Christ, He is the Christ of the eternities.....
And john says listen we have seen with our eyes, we have looked upon and touched with our hands… concerning the Word of Life.....
That is the way to describe that whatever this Word of life is, it is something that spoke all things into existence....
Verse 2 and that life was made manifest… we have seen it… and we are testifying to you which was with the Father, that life was made manifest.
That is speaking of the incarnation..
Jesus was not half man and half God.
He wasn’t all God and no man, He wasn’t all man and no God- He was the God man… The Christ of eternity that one that spoke the worlds into existence, the One that breathed the breath of life into Adam and He became a living soul.
The one that knew that from the very beginning if he took a chance and created man that one day he would have to step out of eternity, and become a fragile baby inside of his mothers womb, and grow up, identify with the common needs of man.
And John is saying listen we have seen him, heard him, handled him, smelled his body odor, felt his breath,,,
But here is where most missed it.
the reason why john is writing this......
Verse 3 and 4
3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
So that you too may have fellowship with us, and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son jesus Christ.... and so that your joy, my joy, our joy may be complete
There is a connection between obedience and love, and love and the absence of fear
What ushers in fear?
26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries

1 john 4:17
Now here is the thing that I want to convey… if you are ruled and dominated by fear it is because you have not been perfected by love.
Whose love?
god’s love… because God is the God of absolute and perfect love.
Question, what if the fear that you have is legit?
You have been hurt in a severe way?
MOM- When my mom died… the day she died… days befoe the cell phone… I was waiting on her to get off work and she would usually make it home around 5:30....
