Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in us the fire of your
love. Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created, and you shall renew the face
of the earth. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of
the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever
enjoy your consolations. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Introduction:

Friday, January 3 645 in the morning 2014 started like countless Friday mornings before that, when I woke up that day I had no clue that my life in every way imaginable would be changed forever. I put antifreeze in a work truck for another crew and slammed the hood to start my day. In my peripheral vision on the right-hand side I saw a flash of white, I heard the nastiest crunch you ever heard in your life, at that moment I realized I was pinned between a pipe fence in a Ford Ranger bumper-my leg was crushed. When the driver of the truck realized what he done in an effort to back the truck up he quickly changed years. He thought he put the truck in reverse but it actually put it in the third mowed the pipe thanks and be down along with it.
My name is Mike Gomez and the title of this talk is the body of Christ. It will go this is a one is

I. The body of Christ

a. We become Christians we become part of a group of people with a common calling belong to the body of Christ. I didn’t know that day how much I would rely on my Emmaus brothers, this was only supposed to be a broken leg.
b. The body of Christ is a community of disciples that carries on Christ-ministry Christian community action. All of my life I’ve been independent up until this point. I never knew any need that I couldn’t meet by myself for myself, that morning all of that changed!
i. I was raised in Central Texas in a bull riding dynasty. I was expected to walk away with all the marbles.
ii. I was raised with all the grit that comes along with the rodeo lifestyle.
iii. Hard playing lead to hard living led to John Wayne thinking. I believed that I was invincible. That cold Friday morning all of that would change!
c. The challenge of the charge comes in developing Christian leaders and renewing the body of Christ in action. This is also the purpose of the walk to Emmaus.
i. Thanks to Ricky Walker, Roger Jensen, Mike Mitchell, Wyatt Robinson, , and people too numerous to name some I know, many I’ve met after the fact. They were very quick to tell me how they prayed for me in the midst of this life-changing crisis by name.
ii. Beyond the shadow of a doubt it would not be here today have the body of Christ not stood by me through this terrible experience.

II. The makeup of the body of Christ. The church is more than its buildings, institutions, and appointed leaders on wall there is significant aspects of the body of Christ. The church on first on people God.
