Salome -. The mother of the sons of Zebedee ( Mark recounts that Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome had brought spices to anoint the body (16:1). Matthew speaks of two women named Mary, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee (Salmone), who could have been Salome, while John describes the sister of Mary the mother of Jesus. If Mary’s sister was Salome, and she and the mother of the sons of Zebedee were one and the same, then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were cousins of Jesus.) Walter A. Elwell and Barry J. There are 4 men that are named James in the NT and very easy to get confused and it makes a large difference when you begin to study the NT to know who you are talking about.
The First we will look at is James the Son of Zebedee. This is the Apostle John’s brother. Who was also one of the original 12 apostles. Jesus calls them together and both of them leave everything they owned family included to follow Jesus.
And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets.
And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.
this James died in A.D. 44, Which would have been to early for him to be the Author of the book of James.
An account attributed to Clement of Alexandria (c. 155–c. 220) says that when James went on trial for his life, his steadfast testimony led to the conversion of his accuser who, the story goes on, was carried off with him to execution.

Acts
and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.
It is clear that this James did not walk with Jesus during His earthly ministry
For not even his brothers believed in him.
Church tradition as this James as having knees as hard as camel knees from praying so much. The martyrdom of James is described by Hegesippus as well as Josephus. According to Hegesippus, because James was preaching that Jesus was the Christ in Jerusalem at Passover, he was thrown from the pinnacle of the temple. James does not die immediately; instead he kneels and prays, “father forgive them for they do not know what they do.” Afterwards, James was stoned and beaten with a fuller’s club, and then buried near the temple. The third James we will look at is James, the Son of Alphaeus. Another of the apostles (; ; ; ), but nothing certain is known about him. As Levi or Matthew is also described as “the son of Alphaeus” (), he and James may have been brothers. Walter A. Elwell and Barry J. Beitzel, “James (Person),” Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible (Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Book House, 1988), 1090.

2. John was one of the first disciples Jesus Calls.
While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
