Intro
Monday we talked a little about God being our refuge
Especially when things are out of our control
When the landscape of our lives changes without our permission
Ultimately, the battle is really not ours to fight
We are left with the an amazing promise:
Yesterday we looked at the Treasure of God inside of us, literally having the Holy Spirit in us.
He brings comfort to us when we are perplexed
We may be confused by certain circumstances, but never we are without hope
We are invited to spend time in Scripture, so that may get to know our creator better & better
By spending time in God’s presence, we begin to see God’s goodness in our lives more and more, much like a marriage, we begin to recognize His voice and His leadings
We also recognize God’s sovereignty way better, Peter reminds us of Jesus heading to the cross:
Today I would like to briefly encourage you regarding the rough times that come as a direct consequence of our actions.
The last two days we discussed circumstances that were outside our ability to control.
What about the consequences of our actions when we sin or make poor choices?
Here is a reality, we are going to make some bad choices, and we are going to suffer the consequences of those bad choices.
Here is what God says about that:
So the first thing is that when we recognize that we in the midst of a bad choice, we stop & repent.
Make a change in the direction in which we are going.
But what do we do about the feelings that come along with those decisions?
You see, we are emotional beings, and oftentimes the enemy uses our emotions against us to keep us away from God and prevent us from repenting.
Isaiah had a word for Israel about this.
Is.
Isaiah is speaking here prophetically to Israel of a time when they would be reconciled to their God.
Whenever you see “the Holy One of Israel” that is a prophecy of Jesus.
Israel is being commanded to no longer dwell in the shame of her sin, but look toward the reconciliation that God has provided through Jesus.
Think of it this way, especially those of you that are driving on the highway.
How far do you think that you could drive without an accident, if you are going forward, but only looking in the rearview mirror?
Anybody could tell you, this is an accident waiting to happen.
The same is true in life, the more we focus on our past mistakes and not look forward to a fresh start, we are setting ourselves up for failure.
We, the Church are the Bride of Christ and He has redeemed us from the shame of our past.
In fact Paul puts it this way:
We have been given a new nature, it is a sin to dwell in our old nature.
Bottom line is that we are to Recognize our path, Repent & change our direction, and Re-identify ourselves with Christ.
Prayer
Only by fo
Lord, help us recognize the sin in our life, let us see what is getting in the way of us growing in You.
Lord, help us to receive the forgiveness that You continually offer.
Help us to repent and to focus on You, so that we can walk in the new life that you offer.
Jesus, help us to embrace the new identity and new nature that You have provided and be the Image Bearers of God that You have created us to be.
Amen
