Introduction
Often on occasions such as this one,
the preacher and eulogist is presented
with the dilemma of giving a good word
regarding our dearly departed.
The dilemma arises because we have
a diving assignment to say something good
about the deceased, while
those of us who know Jesus Christ
as our personal LORD and savior,
understand that nobody is really good but the LORD God.
That’s why we say the LORD is good all the time
and all the time the LORD is good.
That’s why we say He’s worthy to be praised!
Because the LORD God is good!
The LORD God gets all of the glory, honor, and praise
because He is good!
And we know in comparison
our righteousness, our looking at ourselves
as good, is like filthy rags.
And then we continually fall short of the glory of God
as we walk on this earth.
And life is at times one of the most puzzling contradictions.
We can seek or do good and at the same time do wrong
Jerry’s life was no different
Jerry could have gone to prison
But then encourage young people not to do the same thing
Jerry could help others, but not do what is necessary to take care of himself
Jerry could make you laugh just by taking a walk down memory lane.
But that same walk could make you cry?
Transition: It is with this perspective we arrive in Romans chapter 7...
