Intro - Recap
The topic of this week has been trouble
Monday
Proclaiming our faith on our sovereign God, who is our refuge
He tells us in “Be still, and know that I am God”
Tuesday
Recognizing the benefit of having the Holy Spirit dwell in us
We don’t despair when we are confused, but we have hope
We follow Jesus’ model as stated in “continue to trust in Him who judges justly”
Wednesday
The reason to not dwell on the shame of our past sin
2 Cor.
5:17
We have a new identity that Christ has given us, embrace it
Yesterday - Thursday
We talked about dealing with anxiety and how it is something that we should not be dwelling on
“Do not be anxious about anything” - this is a command
The presence of God provides a peace that guards our hearts and our minds
Today - How to find that confidence in God
How can we know personally that sovereignty of God, that I have been talking about.
The answer is pretty easy, we have to allow God to move in our lives personally.
We have to experience God acting on our behalf.
So how does this happen?
I’m glad you are asking your radios that very question.
We have to be active in the Scripture.
God has invited us in to get to know Him.
We can’t trust someone that we do not know, so take the time to get to know Him.
Read the Gospels, start with the Gospel of Mark, it is the shortest of the Gospels and is very fast paced and it was written to avoid the questions of all of the Jewish laws.
It is very understandable.
Then move to the Gospel of John, where you learn about God coming down and interacting with man, so that man can understand God.
Here we see God as someone that has emotions, Jesus exhibits anger, He shows compassion, He cries, and what’s more is that He shows that he values His investment in mankind.
Check out and Jesus’ prayer for the disciples, as well as for you and me.
Move on to Luke and Matthew, then read James & I & II Peter, where you see very practical principles of how to live a godly life.
Then look at Proverbs & Psalms in the Old Testament.
If you begin to read Scripture, you will learn who God is.
He is revealing Himself to us through these writings.
I would like to take you to a very familiar passage:
Solomon is telling us to trust in the Lord, because He is trustworthy, but again, how can we trust, someone that we do not know.
I promise you, if you take the time to get to know God, really know Him, He will not fail you.
In this passage, there is a promise, that we will not be led astray, and healing with rest come your way as well.
Paul puts it like this:
I
This will take time to get in the habit of, but the writer of Hebrews makes this promise:
The first discipline we need to take on, is getting to know the God who wants to be known, personally.
Don’t take my word for it, discover it on your own.
Then you will discover the Mighty Fortress that God is, You will experience the peace that comes with His presence, it is unmistakable and awesome.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for making Yourself available to us, thank You for inviting us into Your presence and making Yourself known to us, first through Jesus, and then through Scripture.
God, please give us the desire to dive into Your Scripture, so that we can be Your image bearers, as You have created us to be.
Help us to find our refuge and peace in Your presence.
In Your Name Lord Jesus, Amen.
