Main Text

9 ‘When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the LORD your God.

Background/Setting

All that the Israelites had was given to them by God, and that included livestock, their land and their crops.
When it came time to harvest those crops, the Lord told them not to harvest their field in its entirety, but rather to leave or set apart a portion so the poor and widows would be able to have provision.
The poor and less fortunate would go to the fields and gather up all that was left so they would have something to eat.

Application

So what is the spiritual significance and how does this apply to us today?
Every good and perfect gift that we have in our lives has been given to us by God. That includes our finances.
As we honour the heart of God by setting apart and giving back to Him a portion of what He has blessed us with many needs are being met. We are blessed to be a blessing.
Remember that when we give we are giving to God.
