WASHINGTON - The Senate Judiciary Committee asked the FBI on Saturday to investigate a person who gave apparent "false statements" during its vetting of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
The Senate Judiciary Committee asked the FBI on Saturday to investigate a person who gave apparent "false statements" during its vetting of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Kavanaugh was questioned about the claim, which accused him of sexually assaulting a woman in Rhode Island. After the claim was made public, the man who made it recanted his story, the committee says. Sen. Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the committee, said the reporting of the false statement slowed Kavanaugh's hearings and diverted resources.
"The Committee is grateful to citizens who come forward with relevant information in good faith, even if they are not one hundred percent sure about what they know," he said in a statement. "But when individuals provide fabricated allegations to the Committee, diverting Committee resources during time-sensitive investigations, it materially impedes our work. Such acts are not only unfair; they are potentially illegal"
Grassley said the man could be potentially charged.
"It is illegal to make materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statements to Congressional investigators," he said. "It is illegal to obstruct Committee investigations."
Christine Blasey Ford was the first to accuse Kavanaugh of sexual assault, providing statements even before he was selected as Trump's choice for the Supreme Court.
She testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday that Kavanaugh asulted her at a party when they were teenagers in high school.
Two other women came forward with claims. Several anonymous allegations were also reported to members of Congress.

deut 22:25
25 “But if in the field the man finds the girl who is engaged, and the man forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lies with her shall die. 26 “But you shall do nothing to the girl; there is no sin in the girl worthy of death, for just as a man rises against his neighbor and murders him, so is this case. 27 “When he found her in the field, the engaged girl cried out, but there was no one to save her. 28 “If a man finds a girl who is a virgin, who is not engaged, and seizes her and lies with her and they are discovered, 29 then the man who lay with her shall give to the girl’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall become his wife because he has violated her; he cannot divorce her all his days.
The father could refuse the marriage, but the rapist will still have to pay support to the woman and any possible offspring.
16 “If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged, and lies with her, he must pay a dowry for her to be his wife. 17 “If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money equal to the dowry for virgins.
Sexual purity is important to God because we are made in the image of God and to violate another person shows not only a lack of respect or reverence for that person but also for the God who has made us.
Application:
Fathers - we need to protect our sons and daughters and their purity. Young people, do not willing put yourselves in a situation where your purity will be called into question.
When a crime is committed against an innocent and helpless person, we need to support them and hold the perpetrator accountable.

16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
15 “A single witness shall not rise up against a man on account of any iniquity or any sin which he has committed; on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shall be confirmed. 16 “If a malicious witness rises up against a man to accuse him of wrongdoing, 17 then both the men who have the dispute shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges who will be in office in those days. 18 “The judges shall investigate thoroughly, and if the witness is a false witness and he has accused his brother falsely, 19 then you shall do to him just as he had intended to do to his brother. Thus you shall purge the evil from among you. 20 “The rest will hear and be afraid, and will never again do such an evil thing among you. 21 “Thus you shall not show pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

Example:
Application:
We make judgments every day about whether something is true or not. We make accusations against our spouses, kids, and fellow employees, fellow church members. Sometimes we read into or misunderstand their words or actions and then accuse them of hurting us. For instance, without even looking at them you casually ask your husband or wife, “did you make the appointment to get the car inspected?” and they don’t respond. You immediately accuse them in your mind of deliberately ignoring you. You might even lash out at them and say, “why are you ignoring me?” What you don’t realize is that one of the kids spilled something in another room that only your beloved spouse could see. They were distracted as for a moment as they instructed their child to clean up the mess. They didn’t even hear what you asked. But when they turn their head back to you expecting that you will be happy that they took care of a situation, they are shocked to have you barking an accusation at them. That is a false accusation. You didn’t take the time to check out the facts, but jumped to a conclusion with only one source of evidence, YOU!
We use this with our kids all the time. One of our kids will say, “Daddy, Maddy hit me.” Since I didn’t see it, I will ask, "Maddy did you hit your brother or sister?” If she says “no,” I have to ask one of the other kids, “did you see Maddy hit them?” in order find the truth.
Of course when I was growing up, it was just me and my older brother, Chris. We didn’t have have a 3rd sibling to stand in as a witness. My parents way around that was to spank us on credit. They said, “if you didn’t do it this time, you probably did it another time that I didn’t know about or will do it in the future, so we will just punish you now so that it all comes out even.”
We need to be fair and know the truth.
