Matthew 5:17 ESV
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Jesus preaching repentance and Kingdom of God
He’s turned upside down the conventional wisdom about who it is that God approves of.
blessings for characteristics that turn your heart to God… that gain you entrance into his kingdom.
One glaring omission...
So far Jesus has not spoken of the Law.
He has said nothing about the law and the importance of keeping it. He has said nothing about the traditional interpretations of the law, and the importance of observing them.
Did this mean that Jesus was overthrowing the law? He certainly was teaching that the way of salvation and entry into God's kingdom was not by merit gained through obedience to the law.
