1 Peter 2:24 ESV
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

I. JESUS BORE OUR SINS THAT WE MIGHT DIE TO SIN

-Not sinless perfection
-It cannot mean that.
-If it means that than no one thoughout the history of the church has ever enjoyed the benifit.
-Paul discusses in the Bible about his struggle with sin
-If it mean perfection, then there woudl be no need for the passages that call believers to repent of their sin.
-Or to confess their sins.
-It means that, in our natural state before Christ we were controled by our sin nature...
-slaves to sin…driven by our wicked passions and desires.
-BUT Jesus bore our sins that we might die to sin....
-that is that sin is no longer ou master
-In Christ we have a new master.
-No longer dominated by Sin, but serving Christ

II. JESUS BORE OUR SINS THAT WE WOULD LIVE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS

-Two parts to this equation
-Not only do we die to sin, but we live to righteousness
-This is speaking our pursuit of Christ
-Living in a way that is consistant with God’s Character
-This is use living a life in the holiness and the power of God
-This is use examining our we live and putting to death those things which are sinful
Hebrews 12:1–2 ESV
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
-The call the Bible gives us before we approach the Lord’s table is to examine ourselves.
-Examine or our hearts…and repent of that which is not in keeping with holiness.
-WE EXMINE MANY THINGS....BUT NEGLECT THAT WHICH IS MOST IMPORTANT
-WE FOCUS AND ZOOM IN ON AND TALK ABOUT MANY THINGS…BUT NEGLECT OUR OWN HOLINESS.
-20 million people this week turned into the hearings on capital hill....and I was one of them
-Can I tell you that Jesus is much more concerned with the condition of your heart than he is anything going on in DC.

III. JESUS BORE OUR SINS THAT WE WOULD BE RECONCILED TO GOD

-This is what is mean where the text tells us that “by his wounds you have been healed”
-The wounds were physical wounds, but the healing is not physical, but spiritual.
-The healing is the healing of a relationship that has been severed between humanity and a holy God.
We are going to move into a time of invitation....dont carry sin with you to the table. -Repent…guard yourself from partaking in an unworthy manner
WHAT A SOBERING WARNING FOR US. We are going to move into a time of invitation....dont carry sin with you to the table. -Repent…guard yourself from partaking in an unworthy manner

Pass Out Bread

BREAD/BODY

ESVFor I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
