The Pain of Being Lost
The Pain of Being Lost
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned every one to his own way; And the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
6 My people hath been lost sheep: Their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: They have gone from mountain to hill, They have forgotten their restingplace.
What does it mean when something is lost?
It is out of its proper place. It is not where it is supposed to be. A lost thing cannot be used, it cannot fulfil its purpose.
We were lost.
We were out of our proper place - Our place is to be in fellowship with God.
We were useless - though made in his image we were unable to worship him.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
We had been scattered upon the earth, with no one to love or care for us. The World seeks just to use us, the flesh seeks just to subdue us and the Devil seeks just to destroy us.
But God seeks to heal us and restore us.
6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them.
We were alone and without purpose or reason. Life was without any hope.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Jesus Came to find the Lost
Jesus Came to find the Lost
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
In one os his most powerful parables Jesus Speaks of himself as a loving shepherd who would leave the 99 in search for the 1 missing sheep.
12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
As a local shepherd, i am constantly touched and blessed by the fact that my Jesus is the Good Shepherd.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
We Are His Sheep and He is our Shepherd
We Are His Sheep and He is our Shepherd
There is just something wonderful and indescribable about the blessing of being in the care of the good shepherd. His grace and peace and goodness are seem to flow together in streams of blessing.
My past pointless and purposeless life now has meaning.
25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
I was Lost, but now I am found, and having been found I have found my place in Jesus.
ps 23
What does it mean that Jesus is your shepherd? How does that fact change the way we face each day? it should change it in a powerful way.
It should because the good shepherd loves you dearly hd his love is not empty words or promises, it is actual sacrificial love.
again:
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
Lays down His life…
I love that he leads me to green pastures and beside still waters. My shepherd provides. He provides all the needs of His sheep.
25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his seed begging bread.
Let me tell you something about our shepherd. Like David killed the Lion and Bear, our Shepherd has defeated the Devil and the World.
Jesus has overcome the word and he has
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Our Shepherd is the Captan of heavens armies.
8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.
The Shepherd is might and fierce in the protection of his sheep, but when it comes to his sheep, he is tender and kindhearted.
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with his arm, And carry them in his bosom, And shall gently lead those that are with young.
Jesus is the Guardian of the Flock
Jesus is the Guardian of the Flock
What does this mean? I am referring to the ability our Shepherd had to keep his sheep.
3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
Our shepherd is a faithful shepherd. He sets his sheep upon the rock, he establishes them, their ministries, their families. And the Shepherd keeps his sheep from following after evil.
He keeps us in his power.
That word “keep” is the greek Phylasso - it means to watch, to guard and to observe. It speaks of constant and vigilant overwatch.
It is not great to know that the Good Shepherd is watching over you today? That the good shepherd is guarding you and keeping you?
24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
25 to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
