John 20:14–16 ESV

Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).

She witnessed most of the events surrounding Jesus’s crucifixion.

Jesus appeared to Mary at the tomb while she was weeping. She didn’t initially recognize Him as He had been. He recognized her as she was

She was important enough for Him to not only appear to her but to also comfort her.

He called her by her name

John 10:3–4 ESV

To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

He knows our name too! He calls us His own! We who have accepted Him are His sheep

Jesus knew Mary’s name. He knew her past. He knew everything about her. There was nothing hidden from him regarding he.

He delivered her. She became His daughter. She belonged to Him

He thought she was to die for

Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.

Commonalities with Mary

Jesus made Mary free, whole, and commanded her to go!

He told her to tell His disciples “I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God

Mary went as Jesus said and told them what she knew. She was free, whole, and had humbled authority to go and tell the men

We have more in common with a woman who was delivered from demons than we think!

It’s no longer about Mary Magdalene. It is about you. With all your “demons,” “evil ways,” thoughts, “infirmities,” what do you need Jesus to deliver you from?
