THAT IT DID NOT MATTER WHO WAS ASKING FOR THE HEALING (JEW OR SAMARITAN)

AT LEAST ONE PERSON ACKNOWLEDGED WHAT JESUS HAD DONE

EVEN WHEN WE DON’T DESERVE IT WE RECEIVE GODS HEALING

JESUS DID NOT JUST HEAL THEM ON THE SPOT HE GAVE THEM A TASK AND IT WAS IN THE GOING THAT THEY RECEIVED THEIR HEALING.

WHAT DO YOU NOT LIKE ABOUT THE STORY?

THAT ONLY ONE CAME BACK TO THANK JESUS

THEY HAD A LOUD VOICE TO ASK BUT NOT TO PRAISE

IT WAS NOT THE CHOSEN PEOPLE OF JESUS BUT A FOREIGNER WHO CAME BACK

BECAUSE IT FEELS GOOD TO BE HEALED AND TO TELL OTHERS ABOUT IT.

I WOULD NOT LIKE TO BE:

ONE OF THE NINE WHO DID NOT GIVE PAISE

WHY?

BECAUSE CHANCES ARE THAT IF YOU NEVER BAT AN EYE AT THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN IN YOUR LIFE ARE SEEN AS MIRACLES THEN THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU WONT’ BENEFIT.

LEV 13:

Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem and traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee (17:11).

Tensions sometimes ran strong between Jews and Samaritans.

Samaritans were considered “half-breeds” because they were descendants of other nationalities who mixed with the Jews who remained in the region during the captivity.

The Jews largely did not associate with the Samaritans ().

The Jewish community was the primary mission of Jesus, but there were Samaritans who responded quickly and openly to His ministry, so He often used them to prod the Jews for their lack of response to His message.

Ten men who had leprosy met Jesus as he was going into a village (17:12).

Leprosy was a dreaded disease that had social as well as physical consequences.

People afflicted with leprosy were declared to be unclean and were not to have direct contact with others, which caused these men to stand at a distance and call out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” (17:12–13).

SLIDE - NO DISEASE

No disease was beyond the ability of Jesus to heal, and His means of healing varied from case to case.

Luke recorded another healing of leprosy in chapter 5 in which Jesus healed the leprous man with a touch and a word.

In this case, Jesus instructed the ten men, saying, “Go show yourselves to the priests” (17:14).

When Jesus healed the single leper, He also sent him to the priest, saying, “Don’t tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them” ().

The ceremonial law of the Jews placed the responsibility with the priests for pronouncing lepers clean or unclean.

Jesus sent them there to fulfill the law and to provide a credible witness to the healing.

OBEDIENCE

As they went, they were cleansed (17:14).

Their obedience to the instruction of Jesus became their means of healing.

The priests did not heal them, nor did a ceremony of cleansing or application of ointment.

A level of faith was exercised in their coming to Jesus and in their obedience, which was sufficient enough to receive God’s gift of healing.

However, it seems that one of the ten moved to a higher level of faith who, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice (17:15).

Verse 14 indicates that all ten of the lepers “were cleansed” of their leprosy—they were healed.

Verse 19 indicates that the one leper who came back and threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him (17:16) was “made well.”

While all were physically healed, the one who came back to Jesus experienced a deeper work of being “made well,” a word most often translated “saved” or “made whole.”

It is possible to be free from disease but not be whole.

It is possible to be whole and yet have a physical disability.
