What happens when I don’t like the answer God gives? We all hit points in life when we would rather be the ones making the rules, and Gods calls us back to remember that he is in control—even when it doesn’t feel that way.

Habakkuk’s Question

Repetition of God’s answer reinforces God’s sovereign will
Repetition of Habakkuk’s question reinforces Judah’s lament and cry for justice
Meaning of the fishing net — people worship whatever brings them success

God’s Answer

God is sovereign — He is right to act as he chooses
Five examples
vs 6-8 those who steal will be plundered
vs 9-11 those who lift themselves high will be brought low
vs 12-14 those who cheat others will lose what they have
vs 15-17 those who take advantage of others will be put to shame
vs 18-19 those who worship their own strength will fall

My Response

Repent (turning around)
Where I have been greedy, instead make me generous
Where I have built up my own fame, instead may I lift up others
Where I have taken advantage of the weak, instead may I serve those who are vulnerable
Where I have trusted in my own success, instead may I rely upon the grace of God
“With the measure you use, it will be measured to you” — Matthew 7
