If you pursue God and His Word you will grow
like milk helps a baby grow
1 Peter 2:2 ESV
Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—
how would a baby grow if milk was bad?
quality of milk
mothers milk cannot be duplicated
Romans 8:12–13 NLT
Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.
sin thrills then kills
fascinates then assasinates
sin grows in the dark
BE IN THE LIGHT AS HE IS IN THE LIGHT
usually people try to lie about or cover up their sins
because where they are hidden they will grow
when sin becomes exposed then the healing process may begin and true repentance take place
Galatians 5:24–25 NLT
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
keep in step daily
keep in step with the growth chart
we cannot keep up with the HS if we are weak
we will fall behind
we won’t grow properly
we are often weak because we haven’t bonded with that which makes us strong
people always talking about trying to get physically fit
rarely hear of people seeking to be spiritually strong
even Jesus needed to be intentional about growing spriitually- connecting with the Father
go off and pray regularly
Jesus teaches
Matthew 26:41 NLT
Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”
fall into temptation
never fall into righteousness
only by intentional pursuit
prayer of submission
prayer of pleading
Jesus “If there is any other way, remove this cup from me… not my will but Yours be done”
God can’t use what we are using for evil for good
relationships
your friends that you are getting hammered with with not be the ones who will draw you closer to Jesus
Bible study feeds your spirit with God’s Word
Psalm 119:9–11 NLT
How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
God’s Word is the only offensive spiritual weapon that we have
hide Word in heart so that it is available when we need it
CAN’T MEMORIZE
Elvis has left the building
Aint nothing but a ___________ hound dog
my achy breaky heart, I just don’t think you’d understand

FELLOWSHIP
1 Corinthians 15:33–34 NLT
Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.” Think carefully about what is right, and stop sinning. For to your shame I say that some of you don’t know God at all.
being around the wrong people never helps you do the right thing
never overcome lust at a nightclub
love us enough to be in our faces
tell us like it is
not to judge you
but to help you deal with it seriously
James 4:7 ESV
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
we do it backwards & lose
Galatians 5:17 NLT
The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
junk in junk out
if you are always listening to filth
it’ll be on your mind and come out into your life
what you fill yourself with will begin to define you
SO...
Romans 13:14 ESV
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Who have tried to be close to Jesus and then ended up failing in some way?
1 Corinthians 10:12–13 NLT
If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
when we start getting close to God sometimes we become confident as if we did it on our own:
this will lead to us:
complaining
comparing/dissatisfaction
dropping our guard on other weaknesses
worry
addictions
gaming
smoking
drinking
looking
spending
don’t think about _________
you’ll end up thinking about it
Galatians 5:16–17 NLT
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

SO WE KNOW THAT GOD, HIS WORD, AND HIS POWER CAN HELP US TO GROW
But not everything that claims to be milk is always pure: milk substitute
Acts 20:28–30 NLT
“So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock—his church, purchased with his own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as leaders. I know that false teachers, like vicious wolves, will come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock. Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following.
people wolves will try to drive you away
we can be diluted
2 Timothy 4:3–5 NLT
For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths. But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.
spoiled chocolate milk
you may not taste it right away but it’s not good for you
