Lillie Faye Boone lived 90 full years on this earth. She was born September 8, 1928 in Hickory Grove, Texas. She graduated from Slocum High School in 1947, one month after marrying Albert Boone on April 19, 1947. Mrs Boone closed her eyes for the last time on this earth October 7, 2018 at PRMC. But in the next instant she opened them in the presence of her Lord Jesus, completely renewed and ready for an eternity of life with Him!
Faye became a homemaker and mother of three, eventually moving to Texas City, Texas where she lived for 25 years. She delayed college in order to have a family but began attending College of the Mainland (COM) part-time, determined to receive a college degree. She was proud to receive her Associates Degree from COM in 1970 as the first class whose graduation ceremony was held in the new building. After that, Faye received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Houston in 1975.
Faye loved teaching kindergarten at Heights Elementary in Texas City and later at Southside Elementary in Palestine, Texas. She moved back to Elkhart, Texas after Albert retired from Monsanto, fully enjoying the remainder of her career and retirement. She loved to cook, sew, and garden; sharing food and vegetables with those in need and those she loved. She was an active member of Northside Baptist Church in Texas City and later Elkhart First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School at both.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Lenard and Modell Howard, her husband of 69 years, Albert, and her sisters Lucy Howard and Glenna Howard. Survivors include son William (wife Jan) Boone, daughters Marilyn Baker (fiancé Dennis Stockman), and Marcelyn Boone, and grandsons Casey and Chad Baker, as well as numerous neighbors who she considered to be family.
Education. Deuteronomy ‘teach these truths to your children’.
ESV16 “A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.”
ESV20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.
Remember the response of the 3 Hebrews in front of King Nebuchadnezzar? Our God can rescue us, but even if He doesnt, we will not bow. Was God able to rescue them? Absolutely! Courage, confidence, faith, joy
When Peter jumped out of the boat, when he began to sink, Was Jesus able to lift him out of the water? You betcha! Thankfulness, faith, joy
When the darkness of life seems to swallow us up, sucking the life and breath out of us, does the Holy Spirit bring the sweet relief of His presence? Praise the Lord, yes! He is! Comfort, peace, joy
He will turn your sorrow into joy. That is not the same as taking away your sorrow. It is letting the sorrow change you, deepen you and transforming it into joy. If we will let God do this, the one who “In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind”, the memory of a mother, grandmother and friend will feed that joy.
God has designed this life so that, when it is over, we can enter rest. I dont believe heaven to be a time of inactivity, but I do see it as rest. You see, He set it up so that the striving will cease. The struggle is only real because sin is real. If we look back to before sin entered the world, we see that ‘tending the garden’ was not a struggle. It was fulfilling, satisfying, joyful. But sin is real, so this life has moments like this. Where we have to grieve loss. It has moments like Monday, when we have to get back to ‘the grind’. But Jesus took care of sin, and is preparing a place of ultimate rest. Trust in that. Hope in that. Hang your hat on that.
Mrs Boone has now seen the one she served so well all her life. Her faith has become sight. if There were one thing she could tell you from where she is today, what do you think it would be? I love you? … Maybe. Or she might just say “it is worth it!” Putting your faith in Jesus is worth it! Living your life on His terms is worth it! That might just be what she would say.
If God is able to rescue Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, He is able to rescue you from any trial of life.
If Jesus can lift Peter from the waves, He can lift you from the darkness of despair. You just have to put your faith in Him.
He is willing to turn your sorrow into joy, all you have to do is turn your life over to Him.
Psalm 23 ESV
A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
