Last week we read in vv. 7-13 that Jesus sends us to tell others the Good News.
We are his ambassadors, it is our daily job to tell someone how Jesus changed us and can change them.
In this passage Jesus sent his disciples out for another purpose.
* In this passage Jesus sent his disciples out for another purpose.
* We will be scared and safe at the very same time, we just don't know we're safe but we should.
We will be scared and safe at the very same time, we just don't know that we're safe but we should.

Jesus sends us. (vv.45)

Mark 6:45–46 NIV
45 Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46 After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.

He knowingly sends them into a storm.
Sometimes we will find ourselves in choppy seas because that is exactly where Jesus wants us to be.

The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit Sermons, Vol. LV Good Cheer from Christ’s Real Presence (No. 3,128)

Do not consider that adverse circumstances are a proof that you have missed your road; for they may even be an evidence that you are in the good old way, since the path of believers is seldom without trial.

He doesn’t cause the storms, but he uses them for his purposes.
* He didn't cause the storm, but he used it for his purposes.
He doesn’t cause the storms, but he uses them for his purposes.
* Hurricane Michael was not sent by God to Florida, but he will use this for his good purposes in the end.
We need to gain that level of faith in the Good News as well.
Revelation 21 NIV
1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” 5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” 9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. 16 The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long. 17 The angel measured the wall using human measurement, and it was 144 cubits thick. 18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass. 22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Hurricane Michael was not sent by God to Florida, but he will use this for his good purposes in the end.
* When you and I are in the middle of a storm we can have peace because we know Jesus sees us.
When you and I are in the middle of a storm we can have peace because we know Jesus sees us.

Jesus sees us. (vv. 47-50a)

Mark 6:47–50 NIV
47 Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. 48 He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, 50 because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
Mark 6:46–50 NIV
46 After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray. Jesus is praying for you.
He was praying on the mountain
Who was He praying for?
Are you in the middle of a battle?
Do you know Jesus is praying for you?
For Salvation and for deliverance.
Thank you Jesus for your grace to pray for us!
Hebrews 7:25 NIV
25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
* When you are in a tough place, He sees you.
Romans 8:34 NIV
34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
Wherever you are, or whatever your circumstances, the Lord Jesus sees you.
Alone, or in company,—in sickness or in health,—by sea or by land,—in perils in the city,—in perils in the wilderness,—the same eye which saw the disciples tossed on the lake, is now looking at us.-J. C. Ryle
Who was He praying for?
Psalm 33:18 NIV
18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
Are you in the middle of a battle?
1001 Illustrations that Connect Illustration 194: A Shepherd’s Comfort

During a recent conflict in the Middle East, Ron and Joke Jones, who serve with the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Israel, wrote in their prayer letter:

The result of the fighting and killing has left a profound sense of discouragement that hovers over the country. Several times we have come into closer contact with this conflict than our comfort zone allowed.

Yesterday a friend said she was watching a shepherd caring for his flock near the area where guns are fired. Every time the shots rang out, the sheep scattered in fright. The shepherd touched each of them with his staff and spoke calmly to them, and the sheep settled down because they trusted the shepherd. Then another shot sounded, and the same routine happened. Each time, the sheep needed the shepherd to orient them again and to reassure them they were safe.

We are like those sheep. When we are frightened, our Shepherd reaches out and touches us with his staff, speaking words of calm and comfort.

John 14:27 NIV
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Do you know Jesus is praying for you?
For Salvation and for deliverance.
How comforting is it to know that he sees you?

Jesus saves us. (vv. 50b-52)

Mark 6:50–52 NIV
50 because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 51 Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, 52 for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.

8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Grace is unearned blessing from God who owes us nothing but his wrath.

What fear do you need to confess and bring to the feet of Jesus?
The disciples were taught that Jesus is powerful enough to save anyone, anywhere.
We need to gain that level of faith in the Good News as well.

Take this with you...

Bring others to Jesus for healing (vv. 53-56)
Mark 6:53–56 NIV
53 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there. 54 As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. 55 They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.

As ambassadors it is our job to daily bring all those around us who are in need of spiritual medicine to the Great Physician.
As ambassadors it is our job to daily bring all those around us who are in need of spiritual medicine to the Great Physician.
Our opportunities to do this are rapidly passing away.
Ask Jesus for a burden for lost people and a sense of urgency so to remain faithful.
Have confidence that all who touch Him will be healed.
