Titus 2:1-8 Older & Younger Saints

Church Leader (v.1)

live a behavior that goes with sound teaching

Older Men (v.2)

in this culture it is speaking of men over 60

temperate

Gk: Nephalios - not given to any extremes in behavior - especially having to do with alcohol

worthy of respect

self-control over passions and desires.

healthy in faith, love, and patience.

Older Woman (v.3-4a)

sacred in behavior

the word sacred speaks toward the holiness you would attribute to a priest or a holy object

(this word is different then “reverent” for older men)

this is in contrast of the next

not a backbitter/gossiper

grk: diablos - where we get the word devil from

so don t be like the devil

this word diablos is defined as someone attacking another reputation

attacking someones reputation

Rev 12:10

the devils job is attack the reputation of people

satan is accusing to God day and night

While the devil points the finger to blame Jesus takes the punishment...

Dont be like the devil and point the finger at people....

teaching it is not wrong for an older woman to drink but it is to drink a great amount.

love their husbands

to wisely have self-control over passions and desires

also translated to be discreet, temperate, and sober-minded

Pure/innocent

defined as busy at home

in context I would say this is making sure your house is taking care of to your best ability.

good

Gk: agathos - having desirable or positive qualities.

obedient to their husbands

also translated as subject or submissive.

this is not a weaker role.

because woman desire and a man desire respect

the best thing a man can do for a woman is be loving to her ()

so the best thing a woman can do for a man is to submit to him - to treat him with respect.

when a woman submits to her husband it doesnt mean she doesnt have a voice and can share her opinion it just means that she should repect her husband who is to care and protect her.

Kinda like how we should submit to police when they are trying to protect us.

Young Men (v.6-8)

sober-minded

translated also to mean - in his right mind, serious

gk: sophroneo - to think and live wisely in self-control over passions and desires

showing an example of good works

in doctrine having integrity, reverence, incorruptibility.

means that this is a way to teach or that like says this is part of our character in good works.

Romans 2:7 NKJV

7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;

sound speech that cannot be condemned

can also be translated as healthy, right, or accurate speech
