Mission Possible

recapping from part 1 last week
As a believer you have been given a Mission
A mission to spread the gospel over the entire earth
Mark 16:15–16 NASB95
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
We know the act of making disciples is central to everything we are called to do.
The 1st step in making a disciple, is to invite an individual into having a relationship with God.
This is often carried out through what has be come known as the sinners prayer
I suggested the ABC model
Acknowledge your a sinner
Believe Jesus provided a way to be saved
Confess Jesus as your Lord
This is the 1st step of a long journey, where the individual is in the process of becoming “like Christ”
Its our job to aid them in that journey
That process is called discipleship
So let me ask you a question.
Have you ever experienced the joy of leading someone to Jesus?
I’ve had the pleasure of leading hundreds of people to Jesus
I got to experience a fraction of Joy they encounter
But this is not the case for the majority of Christians
95% of all Christians have never won a soul to Christ. 80% of all Christians do not consistently witness for Christ. bible.org
If you’ve never experienced leading to someone to Jesus Why Not?
what’s stopping you?
Its obvious it what’s God wants from us, but why is it so hard for us to share our faith?
Are we too busy?
Have we never had the opportunity?
Do we not know how?
Do we just not care?
Have we not been equiped?
How can we be content with coming to Church on a Sunday morning, Singing a few songs…hearing someone preach, shake a few hands, throw a few bucks in the plate
and come out feeling we did our Christian duty?
Now its not my intent to guilt the Church into reaching the lost. That never works
But I can’t in good conscience believe that the universal church is obeying God when the overwhelming population isn’t doing the Primary thing He told us to do
Are we too Busy?
its not a question of busyness, but of priority.
Want proof?
If I was to stand here and say I will give you $100,000 for every person you bring to Jesus
You would find a way to make it happen. Am I wrong?
So if such a temporal reward as money could get us to obey, what a about an eternal reward?
Crown of Exultation or Soul Winning
1 Thessalonians 2:17–20 NLT
Dear brothers and sisters, after we were separated from you for a little while (though our hearts never left you), we tried very hard to come back because of our intense longing to see you again. We wanted very much to come to you, and I, Paul, tried again and again, but Satan prevented us. After all, what gives us hope and joy, and what will be our proud reward and crown as we stand before our Lord Jesus when he returns? It is you! Yes, you are our pride and joy.
Its important we count the Cost.
David takes a Census of Israel
2 Samuel 24:13 NASB95
So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him, “Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? Now consider and see what answer I shall return to Him who sent me.”
2 Samuel 24:
David chose #3 Pestilence
2 Samuel 24:18 NASB95
So Gad came to David that day and said to him, “Go up, erect an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”
2 Samuel 24:18
2 Samuel 24:
1 Thessalonians 2:19–20 NLT
After all, what gives us hope and joy, and what will be our proud reward and crown as we stand before our Lord Jesus when he returns? It is you! Yes, you are our pride and joy.
2 Samuel 24:24 NASB95
However, the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price, for I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God which cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
2 Samuel 24:18–25 NASB95
So Gad came to David that day and said to him, “Go up, erect an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.” David went up according to the word of Gad, just as the Lord had commanded. Araunah looked down and saw the king and his servants crossing over toward him; and Araunah went out and bowed his face to the ground before the king. Then Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” And David said, “To buy the threshing floor from you, in order to build an altar to the Lord, that the plague may be held back from the people.” Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what is good in his sight. Look, the oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood. “Everything, O king, Araunah gives to the king.” And Araunah said to the king, “May the Lord your God accept you.” However, the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price, for I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God which cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Thus the Lord was moved by prayer for the land, and the plague was held back from Israel.
2 Samu
1 Thess 2
-21
David refused to offer to God what cost him nothing.
My question for you
When you stand before the thrown of God and He asks you How you were obedient to Him
What will you offer?
What you offer, what did it cost you?
Have we never had the opportunity?
We all know someone who needs Jesus
According to Barna, just over 30% of people claim to have a relationship with Jesus
That means for every 10 people you know 7 of them need Jesus
Do we not know how?
We will spend more time on this on a later message
but for today
You simply share your testimony
What was it like before?
What happened?
What is it like now?
No-one can refute your testimony
Apologetics defense of your faith
1 Peter 3:15 NASB95
but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;
Do we just not care?
Do we just not care?
Heaven or Hell?
Have we not been equiped?
Well that’s my job. I promise to equip the saints for the work of ministry
Ephesians 4:12 NASB95
for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;
disciple making apart form the Holy Spirit is futile
lots of programs how to do practical evangelism
but the Gospel should always be shared with power
