Power of the Holy Spirit

Introduction

We are going to talk about the Holy Spirit

Last time we learned about how he is a person

Today we will learn how powerful He is!

Now we will have a skit.

Watch carefully and tell me how these two scenes are the same.

Skit with someone acting like they are under a really hot sun, and the other acting like they are being blown like a really strong wind.

So how are these two scenes the same?

Both of these, the sun and the wind,

Are powerful things

You cannot hear the sun

You cannot see the wind

But both are very powerful

We cannot see or touch the Holy Spirit,

But like the sun and wind, we can see His power.

We are going to explore scripture to see the Power of the Holy Spirirt

Who has ?

The Holy Spirit was there at creation.

He worked together with the Father and the Son

Together they created everything that we can see.

The enormous mountians

The vast oceans

Giant balls of burning gas we call starts

The Holy Spirit is equal is all-knowing and all-powerful

just like other two members of the Trinity.

What else has He done?

To understand the Holy Spirit better, we are going to talk a little about Jesus.

Who has ?

This verse tells us something important.

Jesus laid aside his power because a human just as we are.

Jesus was not a superman.

He had an authentic human experience.

So how did Jesus do all those miracles?

Who has ?

Jesus did miracles by the spirit of God.

It was the Holy Spirit’s power at work at the direction of Jesus.

So when Jesus made food for 5000 people

When He calmed a storm with a single word

When He raised Lazarus from the dead

This was the Spirit's power at work.

Who has Hebrews 9:14?

Jesus through the eternal Spirit offered himself.

Jesus went to the cross as our sin offering,

Because the Spirit led Him to do that.

Jesus relied on the Spirit’s power and leading,

So that He could be an example for us

Lets look at some other verses.

Who has ?

The Holy Spirit caused Mary to be pregnant.

He created life without any natural processes

Because of this, Jesus was born without any sin

Who has ?

The Holy Spirit gave power to the disciples so they could speak any language!

In Acts, the disciples did many miracles by the Power of the Spirit

They healed sick people

Cast out demons

This was because God was showing these men had authority

Authority to communicate the Word of God.

Who has ?

Our bible was written by human hands

But the author is the Holy Spirit

Because of His work of inspiration

we have a perfect, infallible Word from God.

Who has ?

The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus,

Just as Jesus sought to Glorify the Father in everything.

The Trinity is unified in everything

Everything has a purpose

Everything done in the Power of the spirit glorifies Jesus and has a purpose.

Okay, what’s the point?

What does this mean for me?

I’ll tell you why!

Who has ?

The same power that raised Jesus from the dead,

Lives in you!

This is the amazing grace of our God

he same power the made the stars and calmed the seas

Lives in you

Who has ?

When you Trust Jesus alone as your saviour

The Holy spirit makes you his home.

You become the Temple of the Holy Spirit

He takes your dead heart and makes it alive.

He washes you clean as white snow.

You are a new creation.

I want you to remember two things

First, you could not possibly be more valuable

If you are in Christ

God almighty has made his home in you

and has made you new.

You are special and loved

No person on earth can ever change that.

The second thing.

Who has ?

You could not possibly be more powerful

I will say it again

The same power that raised Jesus from the dead, Lives in you!

I’m not saying you can do miricles

Lives in you!

The Holy Spirit glorifies Christ in everything

Miracles are no longer needed to give scripture authority

The Spirit enables you to glorify Christ through obedience.

What Jesus asks of us is not easy.

Sometimes obedience feels impossible

How can I submit to that person?

How can I not be bitter towards this person?

How can I show love to someone who hates me?

Do you have any idea what they will do to me if I try to talk about Jesus?

You don’t have to pull off the impossible on your own.Your God is ready to do it in and through you.  You can’t do it,  you can’t muster up the discipline,  the intellect,   the strength, or the perseverance and fortitude.  HE CAN!   You can’t love the lost.  You can’t love those that spit on your face.   HE CAN!

You can’t give yourself the courage share. 

HE CAN!

The same power that raised Jesus from the dead, Lives in you!

Because of Him, we can walk in obedience.

and have the courage to share this wonderful new with others.

Here is a question.

Think of someone you know personally

who doesn’t know or doesn’t understand the Gospel.

The very first person you think of, no matter who that is.

We are going to be silent for one minute,

I want you to silently pray, and ask God to give you an opportunity to share with that person.

If the idea of sharing with this person scares you, that's okay.

It’s not your words that can change someone's life.

It is God’s words that are powerful

If you are willing to let God use you to speak into someone's life

The holy spirit will bring to your memory all that He says said in scripture.

I’m not asking you to not be afriad

I’m asking you to make a decision to obey even if you are scared

Then you can see what the Holy Spirit can do through you in the life of another.

So let’s pray now for that person God brought to your mind.

Set timer for 60, and pray at the end for everyone.
