My biggest pet peeve concerning my children is disobedience or the failure to complete my will as their father. When you give a command and their is a delayed response or it doesn't get done. This behavior from my Children changes the fellowship and brings about consequence.
If you are at a job and you exhibit disobedience or the failure to complete the will of the employer there is a change in the relationship. You will no longer be considered an employee.
Following the will of someone strongly communicates the degree of your relationship. This idea also applies to God the Father. The doing or rejection of His will is telling regarding the relationship.
The Ways of God (Personality)
The Ways of God (Personality)
We must know the person of God when we speak of the will of God.
What we think and know about God
Will drive your relationship to God
And your response to God
The 2018 State of Theology by LifeWay Research and Ligonier Ministries shows that our theology has declined since their prior surveys (in 2014 and 2016).
*57% deny Jesus is eternal God
*59% deny the Holy Spirit is a Person
*Only 64% say gender identity is created by God
We don’t know who we are, because we don’t know WHOSE we are!
God is: What is God?
God is: What is God?
He is independent (uncaused, self-existent)
He is a real active and living person
He is immutable (does not change)
He is eternal and infinite
He is impassible (not affected by outside entities)
He is immaterial (He is a Spirit)
Omnipotent (all powerful)
Omnipresence (everywhere at the same time)
Omniscient (knows everything)
He is holy and righteous
jealous and perfect
Truthful and good
merciful and wrathful
My grandmother was a disciplinarian. She could work a switch. But I could handle her discipline because of the personality she demonstrated. She loved well. She went above and beyond. So discipline was manageable.
“Why do You call me Lord, Lord,”
If you serve a God who contains these demonstrated qualities it should lead you to obey.
All theological truth depends on God’s attributes.
46 “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
With God’s Decretive will we are passive
With his Preceptive will we are active and therefore responsible and accountable.
The Spirit of anti-Christ is that of not doing God’s Will.
The Word of God
The Word of God
Because of the person of God
God is the true and living God
God reveals himself in Person
God Speaks and his direction has been preserved
God does not aimlessly communicate
but he is instructional and directional
God’s Word reveals:
Your relationship to God.
Everyone has a relationship with God
Either a right relationship or a wrong relationship
The one in the right relationship hears God
The one in the wrong relationship hears God and ignores Him.
The Bible is God’s love letter to His children. If you don’t understand it, it’s because you’re reading someone else’s mail. - Adrian Rogers
34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 35 “The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. 36 “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. 37 “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants; yet you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. 38 “I speak the things which I have seen with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from your father.” 39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham. 40 “But as it is, you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41 “You are doing the deeds of your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father: God.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me. 43 “Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. 44 “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 “But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 “Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 “He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”
John 8:34-
Your response to the Word of God reveals your relationship to God.
22 “For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. 23 “But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.’ 24 “Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward.
Much hinges on your response to the Word of God
Because the Word of God presents the God of the Word.
The Word of God is a road map for our lives
My GPS was freezing as I came to a junction in an area I was unfamiliar with. I was dependent on guidance at that time. In this lifetime you need to know that you need guidance from above everyday of your life.
The purpose of God’s Word for us is to glorify God!
If you cant hear God you won’t know His Will because the Word of God reveals the Will of God.
The Will of God
The Will of God
The Word of God reveals the Will of God
Destination matters to the believer (from Egypt to Jerusalem, Sin to Salvation)
God’s will are the marching orders to:
what pleases Him
A Christian pursues the will of God because it pleases Him.
Two common words for will in the NT is Boule and Thelema.
Will (Boule)- rational (careful). God’s Providential plan, inflexible and unalterable.
Jesus was crucified by the will of God
23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.
Thelema(Will)- God’s desired, intended , and commanded will.
God has a Decretive Will- What He says happens. Cant be thwarted. This is what he decrees absolutely.
With his Preceptive will we are active and therefore responsible and accountable.
The Spirit of anti-Christ is that of not doing God’s Will.
God has a Decretive Will- What He says happens. Cant be thwarted. This is what he decrees absolutely.
Perceptive Will- is God’s rule for righteousness for our lives.
We are governed by this will.
We take the most issue with this will
We love to hear the future but not our faults.
With God’s Decretive will we are passive
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether. 10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. 13 Also keep back Your servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I will be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
With his Preceptive will we are active and therefore responsible and accountable.
38 “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 “This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. 40 “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”
John 6:38-
The Spirit of anti-Christ is that of not doing God’s Will.
One of the Pillars of Salvation is the Will of God
Adam and Eve ignored God’s will
It was God ‘s will to redeem us from the sin of Adam and Eve
It was God the Father’s decree that the relationship be restored
It was God’s preceptive will that all men be saved.
37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.
John 6:37-40
It is God’s will that men be saved.
If you want to do the will of God first become a part of the family of God.
46 While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him. 47 Someone said to Him, “Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You.” 48 But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” 49 And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold My mother and My brothers! 50 “For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.”
Matthew 12:46-50
