Jesus Teaches us When We Pray

a) We Should Pray “Whenever”

We Should Pray “Whenever”

We pray whenever we need to.

God is always available to us

He tells us to pour our hearts out to him because he cares about us.

iii) He tells us to pour our hearts out to him because he cares about us.

He tells us to ask, seek, and knock…later in this same sermon.

I mentioned this last week…but He tells us in to give him no rest…

He tells us that if we ask, to continue asking until he gives us an answer.

James tells us that if we lack wisdom that we should ask God who

You have a need? You can talk to God about it right here, right now….

Jesus Teaches us How We Pray

a) We Should Pray Humbly (vv. 5-8)

i) Not looking to impress others, like the Pharisees

ii) Not looking to impress God, like the Gentiles

b) We Should Pray in Solitude (v. 6)

i) William Carey says, “Prayer—secret, fervent, believing prayer—lies at the root of all personal godliness.”

Jesus Teaches us Who We Pray To

We Pray to Our Father (v. 9b)

i) Three times he tells us that we are praying to the “Father”

We Pray to a Holy God

“Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy.

i) “Hallowed be Your Name”

c) We Pray for Spiritual Protection (v.12-13)
