Intro: In this passage, the writer is seen both triumphing, and trembling. He continues to know the power of evil, which tried to turn him from living for God. His circumstances have not been altered, he still fluctuates between contemplation of his situation and contemplation of the scriptures.
He prays against iniquity and oppression. He weeps over those in rebellion against God’s word.
He still had difficulty with the fact that God has stepped in and delivered him.
In the mist of his challenge, there is the light, which shines from divine revelation, therefore he is singing.
As the beauty and wonder of God’s word unfolded, he begins to see the ugliness of sin and the cheapness of what the world has to offer.

Gods word evokes a sense of awe and wonder because of the God who acts through them.
a. There is a sense of power from Gods word. Warren Wiersbe “wonder leads to obedience”
b. The inspiration of God’s word leads the writer to be motivated to obey.
c. To obey the word is to become part of the wonder, to experience power and spiritual transformation.

24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

John 8:
The light of the world (also the world) comes into our hearts and minds and rings insight and understanding.
a. When we open up the word, then the light of God’s truth shines and brings about spiritual transformation.

18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
II Corin
“I gives understanding to the simple”
a. People can shut light out of thiers lives and remain forever in spiritual darkness, or they can open the windows of their soul and let the light flood in”
b. They have simply reached the end of themselves and recognized that, in order to know God, God must speak to them and make Himself known.
C. Motivation.

He portrays himself as thirsty animal, dying for water in the desert. As God feeds us from His word, He also increases our thirst after Him. He both fills and leaves us unsatisfied at the same time.
a. I wonder leads us to obedience, and obedience leads us to understanding, then understanding leads to a deeper desire.

12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.
a. If we lose our desire of God’s word, then we are vulnerable to substitute what the word had to offer.
THE BLESSING OF GOD’S WORD

132 Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, As thou usest to do unto those that love thy name.

He wants the Lord to turn to him. He knows how God responds.
a. He knows his desire will leas to love.

Steps: indicates his concern to walk (live) according to biblical directives.
He did not want to fall into the snares the enemy had set before him.

He wanted to be delivered, he wanted to live a more obedient life.
a. He wanted God’s hand to deliver him. God’s love to guide him.
