The Conclusion

[Announce Text] 1 Timothy 6:3
[Scriptural Introduction] Review [Contextualization] [Creation of longing]
[Renounce text and Read]
[Pray]
[Introduction] A good sermon or letter will conclude by reiterating the main points and broadening the significance and application. I think we need that tonight. I have preached for a total of 183 minutes this week. Thankfully, Paul summarizes the mains points. The points of these sermon are broad because that is the nature of conclusions; however, keeping the faith remains the main message of the book. Review. [FCF]
[Proposition] Because Christians must keep the faith, we must identify the false teaching, refrain loving money (unlike the false teachers), be a child of God, share
[Main point #1] 3-5 Identify the False Teacher’s
[Sub point 1] 6:3 Doctrine: It is different than the apostles teaching. “Healthy” teaching.
It is different than the apostles teaching.

It does not produce a genuinely transformed lifestyle.
[Sub point 2] 6:4-5 Behavior: It does not produce a genuinely transformed lifestyle [Godliness]. 1. They were conceded; they thought they had “special knowledge.” 2. They were Ignorant; this ignorance was culpable. 3. They took pleasure in controversies. Ultimately, their minds were corrupt. They had a spiritual mental illness.

[Sub point 3]
[Sub point 3] 6:5 Desires: They had financial motives. The didache, 3rd century Christian manual, says if an apostle asks for money he is a false teacher.
[Illustration] Maclom Gladwell “Thin slicing” is making sense quickly of images or phenomena. We should not truth our rapid cognition
You might have a false teacher if, 1 (s)he teaches anything new, 2) (s)he doesn’t know where the book of Joel is, 3) (s)he loves proving people wrong, 4) (s)he says you have to know the original languages, 5) (s)he causes people to some church members to “pick sides,” 6) (s)he mocks the members of the church, 7) (s)he seeks .
[Application] We must know the truth, right conduct, and pure motives.
[Main point #2] 6-10 Think money correctly
[Sub point 1] 6:6 Detachments - When one is godly, he has no need of any other attachments. Godliness, “εὐσέβεια” is the “awesome respect accorded to God, devoutness” , “...I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.” Thomas Aquinas, “Non Nisi Te, Domine.”
[Sub point 2] 6:7-8 Eternal Perspective - Sayings, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked I shall return there. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.” , “As he had come naked from his mother’s womb, so will he return as he came. He will take nothing from the fruit of his labor that he can carry in his hand.”
And naked I shall return there.
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
[Illustration] Romania, we didn’t take a lot because would not be able to bring it back.
[Sub point 3] 6:8 Material Sufficiency - * The basic requirements of life: food and clothing. Epicurus said, "Give me a barley cake and a glass of water and I am ready to rival Zeus for happiness”
Epicurus said, "Give me a barley cake and a glass of water and I am ready to rival Zeus for happiness”
[Sub point 4] 6:9-10 No Money-love. Root-ish of all sorts of evils. Roots are hidden but produce the life of things. “impaled with greed."

[Application] We must show the world “there is another way!” Money is not the end-all. Detached from Money and Material possessions not because of emphasis but because of contrast, we have God.
[Main point #3] 11-16 Be children of God
[]
[Sub point 0] “Man of God” Paul is him apart as having a special relationship, putting his origin in God. Same is done of Moses, david, Elijah, and elisha
[Sub point 1] Flee, “from these things” This is an intense word. We cannot be pulled into the materialism of this world.
[Sub point 2] Focus, “pursue” is also an intense word. There must be deliberate effort in both directions.
[Illustration] As a teenager, I struggle with lust greatly. It seemed that I would never get a handle on it. I could run away from different temptations. But it was not until I started running toward God, that I, by God’s grace, found strength. Reading the Bible every morning.
[Sub point 3] Fight, supporting the truth of the Gospel will not always be easy; it involves struggle and hard work on behalf of others. We cannot be soft and timid but bold and persistent.
[Sub point 4] “Fasten unto” Make it your own. We have a responsibility in salvation.
“Good confession” is one’s baptism when you confessed Jesus is God.
“Fastening” is important for two reasons: One, there is relief so stick in there! Two, urgency. Christ may appear. In the first century, they believed it. We struggle.
“Help is on the way!” God “immortal.”
[Sub point 3]
[Illustration] People say the 3rd last is the hardest, because the last lap runs itself.
[Application] Brothers, Christ will appear, flee, focus, fight, and fasten onto for the faith.
[Main point #4] Use our riches generously
[Sub point 1] Humble. If God really is the giver, why be proud?
[Sub point 2] Hopeful in God. 1. Hope in wealth undermines hope in God. Sabbath principle. 2. Hope is uncertain. If money is why you are hopeful your sanity is based on the market and factors which you have no control over.
[Sub point 3] Generous. Be rich not in wealth but in Good works. I think about the Shred servant. “selling his masters property.”
[Illustration] Being Generous gives up the fleeting for the permanent.
[Application] Have you thoughtfully and prayerfully budgeted for giving?
[Main point #5] 20-21 Keep the Faith
[Sub point 1] Guard the gospel. “Guarding a deposit” was a formal procedure in the 1st century.
[Sub point 2]
[Sub point 3]

[Application] “Grace be with you all” May God be with you, in all his grace, as you guard what has given to you.
