The Word became flesh and dwelt among us
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us
Truth we learned about the Word so far in John
The Word was in the beginning. The Word is Eternal.
The Word was with God. The Word is distinct from God.
The Word was God. The Word is Divine.
New Truths from
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
4. The Word became Flesh.
The Message of John 2. The Coming of Jesus (1:14)
“Flesh” stands for the whole person’; it refers to human existence in its frailty and vulnerability
Jesus can relate to you and to me not only in existence but in all areas of life.
Now John draws on the Old Testament, like he did in verse 1. But instead of referring to Genesis, this time he looks back to Exodus.
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near. For God said, “Lest the people change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt.” But God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the people of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt equipped for battle. Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones with you from here.” And they moved on from Succoth and encamped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness. And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people.
:
And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and of all its furniture, so you shall make it.

5. And the Word Dwelt among us
The Pillar New Testament Commentary: The Gospel according to John I. The Prologue (1:1–18)
The Word made his dwelling among us. More literally translated, the Greek verb skēnoō means that the Word pitched his tabernacle, or lived in his tent, amongst us.
Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.
I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord. Yes, I ask you also, true companion, help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
PHil 2. 3-
Jesus did not stay in Heaven and revel in his Divinity. He humbly came to us, he put himself in a position where he could relate and sympathize with us. He dwelt among man. He Emptied himself and became a servant to us. This is our God. He is worthy of our love, our obedience, our very lives.
Are you believing in this loving, humble, all powerful, creative, magnificent, eternal, divine, God that has come to us in order to provide life?
Are you willing to follow his lead in humble service and reverence?
