Eight Aspects of God’s Omniscience
Eight Aspects of God’s Omniscience
Perfect Self-Knowledge
All three members of the Trinity know each other perfectly
They work in perfect synchronicity
“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
Way better than the closest relationships we can imagine
For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
2. Perfect Knowledge of ALL things
Knowledge of ALL things
God never get’s it wrong
He never misreads, misunderstands or misconceives anything
Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
his understanding has no limit.
He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’
and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’
Job 37
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
Ps 147:
Light — Holiness — OMNISCIENCE!
Be encouraged in this truth: because His knowledge is perfect we can trust Him unconditionally in everything we face
3. Eternal Knowledge
Everything He knows He has always known: and He knows EVERYTHING
Humans begin with a brain full of mush…we have to learn everything we know
Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please.’
We can have perfect confidence in God because He knows the end from the beginning!
4. Immediate Knowledge
God knows everything…all at once!
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
“Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”
“Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?”
Unsearchable & Unfathomable
God doesn’t have a need for a staff to keep Him informed
“God is a know-it-all”
Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord,
or instruct the Lord as his counselor?
5. Exhaustive Knowledge
Down to the each minute detail — He knows more than we could ever comprehend
A.W. Tozer — God knows instantly and effortlessly all matter and all matters, all mind and every mind, all spirit and all spirits, all being and every being, all creaturehood and all creatures, every plurality and all pluralities, all law and every law, all relations, all causes, all thoughts, all mysteries, all enigmas, all feeling, all desires, every unuttered secret, all thrones and dominions, all personalities, all things visible and invisible in heaven and in earth, motion, space, time, life, death, good, evil, heaven, and hell.
From heaven the Lord looks down
and sees all mankind;
from his dwelling place he watches
all who live on earth—
he who forms the hearts of all,
who considers everything they do.
Ps 133:13-15
When we realize God knows EVERYTHING about us…it can be very encouraging because we can rest assured that no matter what others might think of us…He knows the truth
This can also be very CONVICTING because...we can rest assured that no matter what others might think of us…He knows the truth
6. Knowledge that is Penetrating
Like laser vision…through every barrier, mask, or wall
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
Searched — same word used when the spies were sent out to spy out the Promised Land
Know — intimate, up-close knowledge - compared to physical intimacy in a marriage relationship
Scrutinize (discern) — to sift through and separate the good from the bad
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
7. Knowledge of the Future
8. Knowledge of what could possible have happened
He knows what the possibilities were, even though they didn’t come to pass
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
