Hebrews 7:24–28 NIV
but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.

Who is Jesus?

Son of God. Messiah. Savior. Risen Lord. High Priest of an eternal covenant.

What has he done for us?

Showed us how far God would go in the incarnation. Sanctified childhood by walking through it honestly with a deep desire to learn and grow and a desire to know his Heavenly Father. He called us out of life as usual to be his disciples. He taught us what we need to know about God’s love and transforming power. He died on the cross for our sins. This is a big part of what Hebrews is focusing on. How Jesus’ sacrificial death made a relationship with God possible for everyone forever. People often take it for granted. But Hebrews is dedicated to helping us understand how sacred and detailed and perfect his work for us has been.

What is he doing for us?

It’s not just about what he did back then. His ministry for his people continues on.
Hebrews 7:25 NIV
Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
Jesus’ ongoing ministry makes it possible for us to remain faithful and connected to God in real time as long as we live and even unto death and beyond the grave.

What’s a high priest?

Hebrews 7:26 NIV
Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.
Psalm 110:4 NIV
The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
Hebrews 7:28 NIV
For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.
Hebrews 7:25 NIV
Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
He is interceding for you. He is interceding for those you love. He can’t make you or anyone else a robot. But he is showing love, pouring out God’s grace, and calling everyone back home and deeper into the love of God.
He’s our interceding priest. Do you know that he’s yours right now?
