WHAT DOES GOD WANT? AN ANALYSIS OF MICAH 6:6-8.
OPENING SCRIPTURE: Micah 6:6-8.
Intro
The questions posed in verses 6-7 should provoke us to deeply consider a few things:
I) Just how great and awesome God is: In all His nature and power.
A) What appropriate gift could anyone possibly bring to God? (He is God on high!)
B) Consider key things about the nature of this great God…
1) Acts 17:22-25: He doesn’t need our help.
2) 1 Tim 6:13-16: He dwells in unapproachable light.
3) Luke 1:36-28: Nothing beyond His power or ability, what could we possibly do for Him that He Himself could not?
II) How insignificant we are compared to his glory and intellect.
A) Isa 40:9-17.
C) Two major reactions to these observations about God:
1) A rejection of God: “He doesn’t need me. I could never offer Him anything worthy of His greatness.” (Which was Israel’s attitude in Mic 6).
2) A deep respect and awe of Him: Which leads to being humbled (Job 42:1-6).
III) What is the value that such a God could see and desire in us.
1) It is not what humans may acquire or accomplish that places such a value upon them by the Almighty. Rather, it is the nature of their being that is so valuable and precious to God (Gen 1:26-28).
2) It is this value that compelled God to patiently carryout His plan of redemption throughout the generations.
3) It is this same value upon the human race that causes God to continue to be patient with us now, that He may give us ample time to repent and turn to Him for spiritual fellowship now and one day, everlasting life (Mic 6:8).
